A woman out for a run in the West Village was raped, choked and robbed Thursday morning by a stranger who left her bleeding on the path before taking off on a Citi Bike after the harrowing attack.
The 43-year-old woman was running around 5:30 a.m. along Pier 45, near West and Christopher streets, when a man grabbed her from behind and choked her until she lost consciousness, police said.
The fiend then knocked her to the ground, took off her clothing and raped her, cops said.

5:30 am is two hours before sunrise. Basically, night time. Wrong time to be out for a run. Yeah, you “should” be able to go out for a run safely any time, but geez, use your head.

Its time for CCC style vagrancy camps. Were you arrested and found guilty of vagrancy? You get to spend 6-12 months living in a barracks, chopping trees or digging ditches for the state.
I used to try to get my last girlfriend to at least strap on a small taser to her thigh under her skirt.
That way even if she is grabbed from behind and has her arms pinned she could reach it and jam it in his thigh and drop him.
Who did she vote for for mayor and governor and in 2020? My sympathy is limited for those who have enabled their own destruction.
Sneak attacks with or without a gun are hard to defend. At least run without headphones and try to be alert. If a attacker already has their hands on ya, that defeats much of the reason for a distance weapon. Basic grappling and firearm training is a must for all.

No, it’s not unusual. Many people start their jobs early in NYC, and they go out jogging before then.
Don’t blame the victim. Women have recently been raped in formerly very safe places with lots of other joggers or walkers around.
Blame NYC. Not only do the rapists know they will get little to no jail time, even if the cops bother to find them and arrest them, but other people nearby have been intimidated into not assisting crime victims even when they see an ongoing crime...because the person who will get arrested is the Good Samaritan for violating the rights of the criminal by interfering.
The new hero of NYC is the criminal.
