The city confirms nine of the 10 staff members at the shooting complex have lead levels above the normal range.
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -- The city has no timeline for when Oahu’s only public shooting range will reopen as an investigation into elevated lead levels in the majority of workers at the facility begins.
The city confirmed nine of 10 staff members at the shooting complex who were tested have lead levels above the normal range. Two additional staff members declined to get tested.
A timeline of exactly when the city first became aware current employees had been exposed to lead remains unclear. Officials would only tell Hawaii News Now it was brought to their attention this year.

I live in Hawaii and frequently talk to these guys on Oahu(I’m on the Big Island).
Hawaii Democrats are so anti-gun that it makes New York city look like a gun owners paradise.
Democrats rule over Hawaii like the CCP rules China.
Since this won’t get me baned from my Hawaii gun site I can say it here, I practice Ainokea, gun ownership and carry. They pretend to pass “safe”, Constitutional, reasonable gun regulations, and Laws, I pretend to follow those laws and regulations.
Ainokea is Pidgeon for I don’t care.
Don’t vacation in Hawaii, it is going down hill fast in the tourist areas.
Aloha.
Hawaii?
Any one of them fish?
Using lead sinkers?
Hawaii? The “state” that gave us the stool sample “senator” Hirono?
Too bad...could be a paradise if no democrats.
Just like 2nd hand smoke...complete BS.
Could be the case, they discussed testing but I never heard about the results. I did work the last 4 End of Trail at Founder’s. That was lots of fun.
This is so much BS. I worked in a bullet factory for a decade and it just don’t work that way.
Is it an indoor range with bad exhaust fans?
I thought you got lead poisoning from the white powder that forms on lead, that they used to scrape off and ad to paint to make White.
Haven’t you seen the warning labels on every product in the store? People from California are known to eat everything, from anvils to xylophones. I suspect they are indeed at risk from eating dirt brought in from Hawaii.

“[Hawaii] could be a paradise if no democrats”
Ain’t that the truth!
Please ignore the volcano’s....
There is Chatsworth Park South in the San Fernando valley near where I live in Calif. and the park was closed around 2008 and remained so till maybe 2017 due to what the city said was lead contamination from a shooting range that closed by the mid 1960’s. Roy Rogers was part owner. I use to find shotgun shell casings all over in the hills.
A million people went thru that park and zero health issues.
When it was re-opened it has 1/3rd fewer parking spaces and the land is all torn up where people played sports or just lounged in the grass. 166 trees were cut down that provided shade. They now have deep trenches lined with rocks and native grass growing around for what they said was to help drain the water after a storm but the water builds up now on the main part of the field where there is grass and then drains across the dirt walking paths creating channels so now the path is filled with hazards for walking. There is also cameras looking at you while in the park. They even tried to pave over the grass areas but were stopped!!
The real reason the park was closed was to eventually build more townhomes as was done some decades earlier when the bigger park was divided into a golf course which gave way to expensive townhomes where the HOA fees are very high.
Too many residents wanted the park and the city eventually gave in but wrecked the park for many.

Trap, skeet and high tower clay pigeon shooting were offered on 5 shooting ranges. Clark Gable, Roy Rogers, Bing Crosby, John Wayne and other Hollywood celebrities used the center.
Is it fair to assume that there is no lead dissolved in Ocean Water?
I assumed they were talking about KOKO head crater.. It’s outside so It’s really hard to get something up your nose. What’s cute is it also is the Police range. Guess the cops will just turn in their guns. Might as well. Some years ago one of them put a round thru an apartment wall and killed a kid sitting on the couch next door. Bad look!
I am a shooter. I have my own gun range on my property as I live out in the countryside on acres of land. I shoot often. Oddly, I no longer hunt as I just lost the joy of killing but have absolutely no problem with ethical hunters. If you tested my blood it would show higher levels of lead than non shooters. My blood levels of lead would not be even near a dangerous level. That is the part the article left out.
Been there many times. South of Waimanalo (a ghetto) before Hawaii Kai not far from the lighthouse. The ONLY place you could legally drive with your double locked firearm in that county (and state). Judging by the stupidity of Hawaiian bureaucrats it would not surprise me they were eating the dirt at a shooting range.
Lead sinkers?
There is a huge joke there with this hoax. No more than a hundred yards away are prime fishing spots off the rocks from Lanai lookout to the Blowhole.
Guys set up multiple poles every day to fish. There are likely tons of sinkers cut loose in the water.
“Some years ago one of them put a round thru an apartment wall and killed a kid sitting on the couch next door.”
Par for the course with Hawaii cops.
Their abysmal marksmanship is notorious.
About as outdoors as you can get. Tradewinds blowing most every day from the northeast.
I’ve heard of reloaders being exposed due to vibratory brass cleaners.
