Here’s some sound advice to all the young punks out there who we all read about doing theses heinous crimes and think being a bad ass will help you make it with the ladies.

1) you get busted and sent to prison for a few years you don’t get to have sex with any girls in prison.
2) if you commit a mass murder or some other dumb crime and the police kill you, you won’t ever have sex again.
3) Life in prison means, life without ever having sex with a woman again.

This is 100% speculative, but people that make statement like his often have such low self-esteem that they are incapable of getting control of themselves and moving beyond self pity and resentment. He obviously felt entitled to a happy life, and didn’t get it that happiness takes work. He was the cause of his own crappy life, and might have even realized it and hated himself more for it. What he couldn’t/wouldn’t step up for was solving his own problems. Assuming he was at all functional, he could have volunteered at a hundred different charities where he would be welcomed, and build self-esteem by helping folks worse off than he is. Sadly, it’s “safer” to blame others and act out than break through your own defensive shields. I’d say it is a shame that no one pushed him in the right direction, but for all I know many efforts were made by well-meaning people.

Exactly. Like most killers, he was the center of his whole world. No one else mattered to him. He cared only about his own inner thoughts and feelings: He felt lonely... he never had a girlfriend... him, him, him, everything was about him.

At the same time, he placed importance on other people, as if only other people could make him happy. And, when that didn't happen, he decided to kill people.

Or... maybe his letter was a lie. Maybe he's been fantasizing about mass murder for a long time, and he wrote that letter thinking people would pity him then.

A lot has changed in 30 years. I thought it was comical the way that cops -- real or fictional -- assumed that serial killers had to be white because of statistics compiled when the overwhelming majority of the country was white and non-whites would have clearly stood out. It's also the case than African-American victims and killers weren't always seen as part of a serial pattern and didn't attract public attention.

Also, "school shootings" and "gang violence" on school property can be hard to differentiate. In any case, I notice more and more school shootings by non-whites today than 20 or 30 years ago. They don't get the publicity that attacks in big suburban, predominantly white schools get.

Very difficult to get up to date statistics and it’s absurd that “gun violence” and “school violence” get another point added when two criminals fight on the street near the school property and a stray shot goes into the window of the school building. That’s a “school shooting.”
