Multnomah County voters will be asked in November if they support extending voting rights to noncitizens through a measure that will test the legal limits of who counties can unilaterally enfranchise.
Measure 26-231 would require the county to extend the right to vote to noncitizens as allowed by law, potentially giving more people the chance to vote on county chair, county commissioners, county sheriff, county auditor and county ballot measures.
Groups supporting the measure include the ACLU of Oregon, the Asian Pacific American Network of Oregon, the Center for Migration, Gender and Justice, the Coalition of Communities of Color, the Latino Network and the Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization. No groups publicly oppose the measure.
Sandy Chung, executive director for the ACLU of Oregon, acknowledged the measure’s aimed at uncharted waters. “Whether undocumented individuals can vote under current law is not yet fully settled and needs to be explored further,” Chung said. “So, we agree with this measure’s approach for extending the right to vote ‘to the fullest extend allowed by law.’”
Oregon’s constitution says that “Every citizen of the United States” age 18 and older “is entitled to vote in all elections” but is silent on the question of whether any noncitizens may vote.
“Undocumented immigrants and refugees are our family members, friends, neighbors, coworkers, fellow taxpayers and more,” Chung said. “They deserve to have a voice in their communities through the right to vote, and encouraging civic engagement by people of many diverse backgrounds will enrich and strengthen our communities and Multnomah County government.”

Great idea. Can’t imagine what could possibly go wrong here.
Perhaps Mexico will begin to allow Americans to vote in their elections.
Global voting rights...the next big idea.

Invasion is not a civil right, and places where the “undocumented” live are not “their” communities
Liberals seem too stupid to live — but somehow they Dodo along.
>>No groups publicly oppose the measure.
That’s a big part of Oregon’s problems right there.
Good bill. It will force SCOTUS to rule on this.
Those who vote yes to such a measure have given aid and comfort to the domestic and foreign enemies of the United States.
America’s progressive-globalist-debt-fed notions must fail - and must fail spectacularly. It will be a very tough slog for this country when it happens, but the thinking that supports this must eventually die.
Let’s just allow the Chinese population to vote in our elections. They will of course have a gun to their head while voting.
“Portland, OR - Multnomah County voters to decide whether to potentially let noncitizens take part in elections”
so do they have to reside illegally in the district, or can any noncitizen anywhere in the world vote too?
Plus if they’re going to extend the vote to illegals then it should strictly be only Statewide - they should NOT be allowed to vote nationally is that affects ALL of us. Keep it in Oregon!
“Oregon’s constitution says that “Every citizen of the United States” age 18 and older “is entitled to vote in all elections””
Thereby REQUIRING anyone who presents himself to vote, when challenged by a verified citizen of the US, to prove they are both a US citizen and over 18.
The first Amendment protects the individual citizen’s right to redress the government and comes to include your right to require proof from someone else to the government in that place.
We the People are the progenitors of the Constitution.
We get to say what it applies to.
No some humpty-dumpty lawyers toss-off in a court room.
They won’t stop until they experience some good, hard, painful PERSONAL consequences.
Although the Supreme Court allows the states to handle their own elections and election rules, there must be something Unconstitutional about allowing foreign citizens to vote, although there may be a difference between local elections and national elections.
Does anyone know if it violates the Constitution or federal law?
By the way, someone in the media and government should be arrested for calling them ‘undocumented’ as it is a LIE. They are fully documented with passports of their country of origin, they IDs’, birth certificates, etc. They are foreign citizens, and criminals to boot since they are here illegally.
It shouldn’t even be a thing that citizens can vote on. Non-citizens don’t get to vote. Otherwise why have citizenship or be a citizen? Unless you want to or don’t care about wreck(ing) the country. Answering my own question.

My cat Mr. Whiskers is very excited by all this. He has already completed an online voter registration form. So he’s good to go.
So, I can drive in from WA, or ID, or ? and vote?
And if I have a busload of ‘folks’, they can vote, too?
And if I then drive them to a different precinct, they can vote there too?
The only down side is the cost of Diesel for the bus.
What could possibly go wrong?..........................
Fine.
On election day let’s bus in out of state republican voters to take part in their elections. They’ll change their tune soon enough.
I am adamantly opposed to non-citizens, illegal or not, voting. That said, maybe they have more common sense than do the citizen residents of the city and county.
