The U.S. military said it intercepted two Russian bombers near Alaska on Monday.

The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) said it detected two Russian bombers in Alaska’s Air Defense Identification Zone, which covers the international airspace outside of the U.S. and Canada near the far northern state.

Two American F-16 fighter jets intercepted the Russian aircraft, which did not enter American or Canadian sovereign airspace. The recent activity is “not seen as a threat nor is the activity seen as provocative,” NORAD noted in its press release.

"The recent activity is “not seen as a threat nor is the activity seen as provocative,” NORAD noted in its press release."

But 'the Hill' is determined to make it seem otherwise.

Remember when that Chinese fighter downed that EP-3E aircraft during Bush II? I bet the Hill conveniently doesn't.

The Russians do this crpp a lot, and have for years.

It would make more sense to use their high altitude fleet for carpet bombing the Ukrainians.

Same S***, different decade. My dad flew F101s in Air Defense Command in the late 50s/early 60s and this happened multiple times a week.

TheHill and is hyperbolic crap. The US and Russia have been doing this to each other since the 1950s.

How pathetic reporting. Those are reconnaissance aircraft not bombers.

The Tu-95 "Bear" is definitely a bomber. They use them for recon runs off the Alaska coast and elsewhere all the time, but they're basically the Russian counterpart of the B-52.

The Going Away present when leaving the Alaska Air Command (AAC) in the early 80s was a large picture of F-15s escorting a Bear out of AAC air space...

Just scouting out invasion routs for the Russian Federation coming attack on Alaska—they think it still should belong to them. With Biden in Power—they may have a shot of getting it back, on the battlefield or peace table at the End of WW III.

There is no chance they could ever function as a bomber. In that role they are more obsolete than our B-36 and in no way comparable to our B-52.

Yep. I looked it up and you are right. That missile capability did give them new life, even if it may be a short one.
