Trump charged Secret Service ‘exorbitant’ rates at his hotels, records show

Former president Donald Trump’s company charged the Secret Service as much as five times more than the government rate for agents to stay overnight at Trump hotels while protecting him and his family, according to expense records newly obtained by Congress.

The records show that in 40 cases the Trump Organization billed the Secret Service far higher amounts than the approved government rate — in one case charging agents $1,185 a night to stay at the Trump International Hotel in D.C. The new billing documents, according to a congressional committee’s review, show that U.S. taxpayers paid the president’s company at least $1.4 million for Secret Service agents’ stays at Trump properties for his and his family’s protection.

“The exorbitant rates charged to the Secret Service and agents’ frequent stays at Trump-owned properties raise significant concerns about the former President’s self-dealing and may have resulted in a taxpayer-funded windfall for former President Trump’s struggling businesses,” Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney (D-N.Y.) wrote to Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle.

The records contradict the repeated claim made by Eric Trump, the president’s son and the Trump Organization’s executive vice president, that the family’s company often gave the Secret Service agents the hotel rooms “at cost” or sometimes free, providing steep discounts for the security team to stay at Trump properties.

Eric Trump disputed that the Trump Organization profited off Secret Service stays at his family’s properties.

“Any services rendered to the United States Secret Service or other government agencies at Trump owned properties, were at their request and were either provided at cost, heavily discounted or for free,” he said in a statement. “The company would have been substantially better off if hospitality services were sold to full-paying guests, however, the company did whatever it took to accommodate the agencies to ensure

The Secret Service pays the vice president $2,200 per month to rent a cottage next to his waterfront home outside Wilmington, Del., FoxNews.com has confirmed.

The Washington Times first reported that Biden has raked in more than $13,000 since April from the agency tasked with protecting him, and under the terms of their contract could make up to $66,000 by the end of 2013.

“... 40 cases the Trump Organization billed the Secret Service far higher amounts than the approved government rate...”

~~~
Tricky crapola right there.
It would look a lot worse if the Trump Hotel was charging secret service a lot more than they were charging their other customers!
That I would agree too.
“approved government rate” while may be a legit complaint is a red herring meant to make Trump look corrupt.
legit complaint technically, from the government’s perspective, I meant. Not a legit complaint about corruption. Though they’d love you to think so.
Don’t the Clintons charge the Secret Service for their accommodations at Chappaqua an amount equal to the Clintons’ mortgage payments? So the taxpayers are paying for the Clintons’ house.
I would like to hear the rest of the story from a reputable source, as opposed to a discredited Leftist rag like the WASH COMPOST.
Even if true that the Secret Service was charged above the government rate, who was overseeing the expenditures at the Secret Service? My company has a corporate rate at many hotels. When our employees get charged the full rate, which often happens, our Accounts Payable team will call the hotel and get the bills adjusted accordingly before paying them.
I highly doubt that Trump gets involved in that kind of minutiae with his companies.
No mention of course on how Trump saved the taxpayers millions on Air Force One alone.
I’m charged ‘exorbitant” rates under Brandon for a whole slew of things . . like gasoline, medicines, groceries and household items. So, let’s not go there.
Michelle Obama spent 6 million dollars a year hauling her fat butt on tours around the world along with her sneering kids and her mother.
The Washington Post can forget this desperate pre midterm story. No one is impressed I’m sure.
Does it mention pelosi using military aircraft for her family travel? Illegal.
She tipped her had with that last rhetorical flourishes “Trump’s struggling business.”
Superfluous and irrelevant to the accusation.
the Question is was the rates the same as other costumers using the same room or was it more...just guessing that it was the same rate or a lower special rate.
They always do, just can't help themselves. In their mind, it's fake but accurate and it deceives people the way we want them to think.
