China announces indefinite pause to releasing economic statistics

China said Monday it will delay the release of economic growth figures, as the country's leadership gathers for a major meeting set to hand President Xi Jinping a historic third term in office.

The announcement comes a day before analysts had expected Beijing to publish some of its weakest quarterly growth figures since 2020 with the economy hobbled by Covid-19 restrictions and a real estate crisis.

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said the release of growth figures for the third quarter along with a host of other economic data would be "postponed", without specifying a reason or giving a new timeline.

China has told its state-owned gas importers to stop reselling liquefied natural gas (LNG) to foreign buyers as the government aims to secure the nation’s own supply for the winter heating season, Bloomberg reported on Monday.6 hours ago

The numbers are so bad they need more time to make up fake numbers.

For years, the GDP numbers provided by the Provinces never matched what was published by the Central Government. No Province was ever below the national GDP growth number. The central government knew the local apparatchiks would inflate their production numbers (good communist bureaucrats trying to look good, after all) so the Central Government would impose an automatic "deflator" on the numbers.

LOL

I see folks state things like China is so much better off
than we are.

China has massive problems in banking, real estate...

It’s a real hoot to watch them hide their data it’s so
bad.

Moving our manufacturing away from China would kill its
ability to implement their global ambitions.

DO IT NOW!

As far back as the 1970s, when OPEC and Japan were the bogeymen of the day, the doom and gloom crowd were always lamenting about some country or other usurping America's place in the world economy.

No other country or organization of countries (i.e. EU, OPEC or BRIC) is even remotely close to that.

That's not to say we don't have problems of our own or that we should be complacent. But the United States is still far and away the one place that everybody wants to either come to or invest their wealth in.

When I see Americans in large numbers fleeing our country or moving their money offshore, then I will worry.

I totally agree about moving our manufacturing out of China. It is already starting to happen. China is not all it's made out to be. It's a house of cards.

Thanks for the agreement at the end.

I will refer to it as the silent killer. Large corporate
buildings, business complexes are built by real estate,
business, banking, loaning, institutions. That business
in China has been incredible.

Take a look at twenty year old pictures of Chinese cities
and look at the difference in the last 20-30 years.

There isn’t one major city in the U. S. we can point to
that has experienced anything near that growth.

We have an old worn out infrastructure, and our trade
with China is the reason why.

Yes, other nations still want to do business with us,
but it sure isn’t related to buying our goods. It’s
related to moving more concerns offshore. It’s related
to something they can make we’ll pay good money for.

Our freeways here in Los Angeles are crumbling, bumpy,
downright dangerous. Where they go over a pass through
for vehicles, the freeway doesn’t match up real well.
The car may drop 4-6 inches. They just don’t give a
rats arse about it. We pay big bucks in gas taxes,
and they do what they want with it.

They have started working on some of the freeways, but
the work is about two decades overdue.

I suspect that if we didn’t deficit spend like we do, the
issue of moving manufacturing off shore would a lot more
clear to see.

All very good points. Our core infrastructure is clearly crumbling.

I recently flew out of JFK airport in NYC, which used to be a first class airport. Taking the van from the long term parking lot was an adventure. The service roads surrounding JFK are of third world quality. The San Diego airport I flew into was in much better shape overall but many areas of the city and I-5 looking rough.

My sister had to friends take a flight back east for business.

The flights there and back, had one stop on the way.

They left from Burbank airport two hours late. They missed
their connecting flight and had to hang out for ten hours
before another flight to the same destination was available.

On the way back, the same thing happened. They had to
choose between another flight 12 hours later, or a flight
that landed at LAX instead of Burbank.

Southwest has been a very good airline, but it seems they
are having some serious problems.

Large airlines have deleted thousands of routes and the
airport reception areas to facilitate them.

I read a report about four months ago, that predicted we
will no longer be able to fly domestically by the end of
the decade.

Flights will be few, and prices will move us out of the
market to afford them.
