Herschel Walker Says People Worried About High Insulin Costs Should Just 'Eat Right'
Huff Po ^ | 10/15/22 | Igor Bobic

Herschel Walker, the GOP nominee for a U.S. Senate seat in Georgia, said people who are worried about the high cost of insulin should “eat right” in his only debate against Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) on Friday.

During an exchange about the economy and the high cost of living, Warnock touted his work passing legislation lowering prescription drug prices, including a $35 cap on monthly insulin costs. He noted that Walker had opposed the law, which is called the Inflation Reduction Act.

Walker responded by saying the Inflation Reduction Act had not reduced inflation. Then he argued that people who need insulin should think about eating better.

“I believe in reducing insulin but at the same time, you gotta eat right. I know many people that’s on insulin. Unless you’re eating right, insulin is doing you no good. So you have to get food prices down and you gotta get gas down so you can go get insulin,” the GOP candidate said.

The answer is breaking the duopoly. Unfortunately they both know that, and that once upon a time they were 3rd parties, and they are completely allied in keeping that door well locked.

OK. Thanks

Even though it runs in my family, I’ve never had an issue with it so I’m somewhat ignorant about diabetes

Sorry

Plenty of Type 2 DM patients are no longer controlled by oral medications. These people did not get diet and weight under control when it would make a difference. They now require insulin.

The whole conversation about Hershel Walker's diabetes ignorance is ridiculous. Sounds like a lot of trolls are here to discourage a conservative U.S. Senator from GA this election. That is all.

None? Do you eat healthy every day? Do you drink? Are you perfect? Are you going to get sick and die?

My Dad was 5’10”, 160#, ate healthy his whole life due to high cholesteral and high blood pressure. Got type II diabetes in his 60’s. Died from kidney failure and ultimately heart failure.

Know a friend who is about 5’2”, under 100# and got Type II in her 40’s. No other health issues. Never saw her being unhealthy.

I know some really heavy people that have no issue with glucose or diabetes in their families.

All types of people, all types of genetics, all types of vices, death to all of us.

and Walker’s point was... if you can’t afford food at the grocery store there isn’t any way to eat right.

Your two anecdotes are noted. In reality, Type 1 diabetes represents only 5-10% of all diabetes cases. The vast majority of diabetes cases and healthcare costs are due to overweight and poor diet.

Herschel Walker is the conservative candidate for U.S. Senator from GA. The trolls are busy here today.

Trump and others do not deny that Biden sits in the White.

They deny they won. Said so yesterday. Now so does Walker.

My wife is Type 2 and keeps it under control with diet and exercise. Her doctor says he doesn’t see many do it that way. She sets a carbohydrate limit per day and sticks with it

One I was thinking about was a well educated male, in-law, who had diabetes from childhood and died from it in his late sixties. He was always off diet and pumping the insulin. Often I would get a call from his wife while she was at work to check on him and find him in shock and try to get orange juice down him or call 911. It was frequent enough they all knew him by first name.

Our system - executive system is ill-designed for 3rd parties, parliamentary system is optimally designed for it. In our system 3rd parties usually coalesce around a single to a few issues. Those issues later get adopted by the major parties or die out.

The Founding Fathers purposely designed our system to minimize the number of “factions i.e., parties”. The minimal number and not be a one-party dictatorship is two. In parliamentary systems there is no real executive authority. The majority party or coalition picks all the executive\ministerial\management positions. Everything is subject to party (or coalition) politics. Our executive system doesn’t have as strong or direct enough “political award system” for co-governing to make coalition politics work. You think partisanship is bad in our system, in a parliamentary system it much much worse! You need a very strong “independent (as much as it can be!)” civil service to have any continuity of government. You think our Deep State is bad its nothing compared to the civil services of say the UK, France, Japan, Italy, Germany, etc. In France they have their own ‘bureaucrat MITs’ to train government bureaucrats. In the view of these bureaucrats, they run the government. Politicians come and go and are more an irritating distraction or entertainment then anything else.

As bad as our system is, everything else is much much worse!

Who is "they?"

Now so does Walker.

You do not know what you are talking about, and you didn't listen to last night's debate. Troll.

Actually the executive system is just fine for 3rd parties. It was always built with that idea. That’s why originally the VP went to the 1st runner up (which implies more than 2 candidates) and Majority Leader and Speaker are 2 different jobs.

The Founders wanted to ban parties because they knew that politicians would become loyal to the party instead of the country. Unfortunately they couldn’t figure out how to do that and not castrate the 1st.

They wanted to avoid tyranny of the majority, and one of the best ways to do that is MORE than 2 parties, because then you’ll not even have a majority. Parties would need to form coalitions, recognize where they share beliefs with these guys to get this thing passed, but those other guys to get the other thing passed.

Actually partisanship is MUCH MUCH worse here than any of those countries you mention. And it’s RIGHT IN YOUR POST. this foolish belief that you must vote for 1 of he 2 dominant parties is the ultimate in partisanship.

Right now our system is the worst. We have 2 parties that have no core beliefs, than only have the support of about 50% of the population, holding 99% of all elected offices and doing whatever the hell they want because even though most of the country hates them BOTH they keep voting for the lesser of 2 evils. Thus voting in evil. And giving us elections like this one where both candidates are pathetic idiots who shouldn’t be elected, but one of them is going to win.

Good for your wife.

I love sweets but my lifestyle has me burning off any calories I consume.i also don’t eat buckets of KFC with family size serving of mashed potatoes and gravy but settle for a diet coke, cuz you know, “I’m on a diet”
Yes, I’ve seen those 900# fattie shows and that’s how they get that way.

Speaking of genetics, I know a old girl friend that has diabetes, I forgot which one but she’s normal sized, doesn’t eat sweets, active but wound up with early onset diabetes after turning sixty.

She’s one quarter Indian and was raised dirt poor but her diet through hard work has become more middle class.
I’ve heard that some tribes have a much higher rate of diabetes because of the typical American foodstuffs and I lean to believe that because for millennia, they have lived off the poorest of land and adapted to making the most of the nutrients they consumed.

At least that’s this uneducated opinion on the matter.

He said he wants to reduce the cost and people should eat right.

Both are correct.
