Azerbaijan's War Crimes—Why the World Can No Longer Stay Silent
Newsweek ^ | 10/7/22 | STEPHAN PECHDIMALDJI

For a president who entered office claiming human rights would be the central tenet of his foreign policy, President Joe Biden has had a mixed record halfway through his presidency. There's no question that his leadership on the world stage in defending and supporting countries like Ukraine has sent a strong message to autocrats like Russian President Vladimir Putin that their nefarious actions will not be tolerated.

President Biden's willingness to stand up to bullies both here and abroad has the potential to be a key hallmark of his presidency. But his administration's handling of Azerbaijan's illegal war and unprovoked attacks on Armenia promises to derail any of those accomplishments.

Put simply, Azerbaijan is committing war crimes and atrocities. Despite overwhelming evidence, the Biden administration has done next to nothing in holding Azerbaijan accountable and keeping them in check.

Taking a page out of Vladmir Putin's playbook, Azerbaijan's petro-dictator Ilham Aliyev used the pretext of historical revisionism to start an unlawful war in 2020 against Armenians living in their ancestral homeland of Nagorno-Karabakh, known as Artsakh to Armenians.

And while a tenuous ceasefire remains in place, Azerbaijan continues to violate the terms of the peace agreement by attacking the territorial integrity of Armenia. Last month, Azerbaijan fired artillery and drone strikes against Armenian border towns including Vardenis, Goris, Sotk, and Jermuk while killing hundreds of Armenian soldiers and forcing Armenian civilians to evacuate.

It was during those recent clashes where Azerbaijan troops mutilated a female Armenian soldier who was subsequently stripped naked with text written across her breasts and stomach. A stone was placed in her eye socket and a severed finger in her mouth. And video evidence recently emerged showing Azerbaijani troops executing a small group of captured Armenian soldiers.

Yes, I said as much. Russia is an ally of both Armeni and Azerbaijan. If I was Armenia I would be a little nervous, because over the last 10 years Russia has drifted a little closer to Azerbaijan.

Those pesky Armenians again…

In all seriousness, the Azeris/Armo conflict over said region is one in which neither side is good or bad - just a very bloody real estate dispute.

Actually, the Azerbaijan started attacking right when it was obvious that the Russians are not going to win in Ukraine.
So are the Georgians getting ready to attack Russia.
There are many places which have legit claim on Russia.
They all seem to be getting out of the woods!
I am starting to doubt that Russia will survive this war!

Yes, but Russia is a close ally with Turkey,

No they are not. Erdogan has designs on a weakened Russia, he's playing a game with them.

BS. The conflict is over a part of land which s not technically Armenia. It started before Ukraine if you pay attention.
The idea that Russia is not going to win in Ukraine is preposterous. The only question is how the win is going to look like. The original objective was that Ukraine leaves Donbas alone and drops NATO aspirations. It was very sensible to accept them for Ukraine which I think she was ready to do unless the West interfered. The goal was to use the conflict to inflict heavy losses on Russia and force a regime change where. It didn’t work as well.
I think now the Russian objective is to take over the pro-Russian areas oppressed by Ukraine and neuter the rest. They are more realistic than Western objectives towards Russia. Europe betted on the regime change and resuming of trade on more favorable terms with themselves in charge of the Russian resources. Now, they are in position of energy and material shortage and uncompetitive economy and no chance to resolve it any time soon. Russia is turning to China and India and doing great.

Yes, the conflict predates Russian aggression in Ukraine. But originally, Russian/Armenian forces were winning!
Now, unfortunately, they are loosing.
The original Russian objective was to take over the whole Ukraine. After they were defeated at Kiev, they backed off and decided to try just for the South.
Now, they are pretty much done for good.
If they do not stop soon, they will loose Kuban, Belgorod, even Smolensk.
Circassia will be free, and who knows, what else?

Of course not. Your understanding of the issue is superficial and based on propaganda. Originally, Russia was okay without Ukraine, unless the Navi base in Crimea was threatened.
After Crimea joined Russia, the globalists encouraged Ukraine to attack Donbas with zugzwang on mind.
If Russia would not react, they would incite the right in Russia saying that Putin is weak and don’t care about oppressed kin. If he reacts then Russia is a black hat and aggressor.
Then were the Minsk accords, the rest is history.

Regarding Armenia we see the same zugzwang. If Russia intervenes, it is an aggressor and the enemy of Muslim world. If not, it doesn’t stand by the ally.

The anti-Russian Soros-kiddies and Pelosi visits the choice easier. Armenia’s value for the Russian security is about zilch. To throw it to the wolves is very sensible. It is going to teach others a lesson that NATO and Pelosi are nothing but Russia means business.

You can’t say Russia/Armenia forces, since Russia is also an ally of Azerbaijan. Russia has never been all-in on helping Armenia, they are more like a broker between the sides. In recent years, they’ve moved more towards Azerbaijan.
