The 1970s is the ultimate American allegory of inflation.
By official measures, it was the worst inflation rout in America’s post-war history, with inflation peaking at 14.6%. It was also a bitter lesson about what happens when policymakers bide their time—for political gain and whatnot.
So, naturally, the 1970s is always the reference for the worst—like that naughty kid in school that parents benchmark their own kids against. That comparison is especially tempting this time around.
Just like today, the 1970s inflation was a by-product of both extra loose monetary policy (demand-pull inflation) and energy shocks (cost-push inflation). It is, therefore, probably the best reference there is to predict what’s to come.

Carter is fixing to die much happier than he thought he would ...
I respect Jimmy Carter, even if I disagreed with him. I have zero respect for BiteMe.
Jimmy Earl Carter did some exceptional things in his life
Some of his policies during his presidency werent part of that ...
“Carter is fixing to die much happier”
I was about to ask you if you are from the South because you wrote “fixing to”, but then saw your screen name and don’t need to ask.
That’s the way I would say it too.
Yes, this must be good for Carter to know he wasn’t one of the worst presidents. Unfortunately he probably doesn’t like what’s happening to the country.
Carter’s problem was inability to translate his knowledge into leadership skills. Biden’s problem is intentional malice.
I have less of a beef with Carter, but I don’t respect his decisions. For him to be this old and not learn is not worthy of respect.
Gee I meant ‘fixin’
:)
At 98, Jimmy Carter is tanned, rested, and ready. And still eligible for another term!
He'd be an improvement.
But Carter was a veteran. He went on to build houses. He does love America.
I hate his policies and he’s in the top five worst presidents of my lifetime (1. Biden. 2. LBJ. 3. Obama. 4. Carter. 5. Clinton.)
But I have some respect for Carter.
Biden should be in jail for selling out America. Completely amoral scumbag.
VP in the place of KarMarLar ???
There’s also “fittin’ to”.
Oh OK
:)
1. Buchanan 2. Wilson 3. LBJ 4. Andrew Johnson 5. Carter
I will probably replace Carter with Biden by the time his administration is over. Obama was held in check by Congress for most part so he couldn't do as much damage. His greatest effect on USA is through his successor Biden.
Buchanan, Wilson, and Andrew Johnson are before my time but agree with them being in the all-time worst list.
Obama did his worst damage with the judiciary but mostly remaking the alphabet agencies in his horrible communist image.
“I respect Jimmy Carter, even if I disagreed with him. I have zero respect for BiteMe.”
I agree, Biden is by far the worst President in the history of this country.
You might be right. It was always bad. But we can blame Dubya after 9/11 for injecting the alphabet agencies with steroids.
Obama took what was handed to him and took it to the next level.
Real inflation is already over 16% that is worse than the 1970’s.
“I have less of a beef with Carter”
But will you still be in the line?
Biden seems less like a President of our country than an installed figurehead by some conquering nation or entity appointee to keep up the appearance of normalcy.
He’s essentially our Pétain.
