A powerful truck explosion seriously damaged Russia’s road-and-rail bridge to Crimea on Saturday, hitting a prestigious symbol of Moscow’s annexation of the peninsula and the key supply route to Russian forces battling to hold territory captured in southern Ukraine.

The blast on the bridge over the Kerch Strait, for which Russia did not immediately assign blame, prompted gleeful messages from Ukrainian officials but no direct claim of responsibility.

Russian investigators said three people had been killed, probably the occupants of a car traveling near the truck that blew up.

A military target, being critical for military logistics, it is entirely fair game, and this has been part of the customs of war for thousands of years.

And, of course, turnabout is fair play.

Lamestream media (and some here) will blame it on Russia...like they blew up their own Nordstream pipe.

Correct.
Valid target, but the other side always gets a turn.

Yep. During the Civil War, both sides burned bridges. And during WW II everybody bombed bridges, and factories, and rail yards, and etc. All of those targets had civilians present. Billy Sherman was correct. War is hell.

True. This is the Ukrainians turn though, as the Russians have destroyed plenty of infrastructure in Ukraine over the last 7 months. Its good the Ukes are able to get some payback.

This was meant to be a prolonged encounter. If the ukraine and its allies were serious about preventing death and destruction this would have been targeted months ago.

One can be completely serious and still be unable to do the needful. Ukraine probably lacked the means to attack this bridge previously.

We still dont know how it was done.

It’s a military target. Ukraine didn’t start this war.

Please give me a break. XiBiden was talking about russia invading ukraine for at least 4 months, you mean to tell me during that whole time no one was making a list of strategic russian military targets. If that was the case then the ukrainian security ministers need to be tried for treason for not doing their jobs. And YES they had the means to do this because WE the USA are arming them!

Was it? On the face of it it looks that way, but it may be misleading.

And if it was a truck, whose was the truck, what was it carrying, how did they get it past security (alleged to be stringent), who was driving it, and how was it set off.

If Ukrainian covert operatives could pull this off they could do a lot else as well.

Perspective from Zelinsky’s top advisor Podolyak:

Now seriously. FSB/PMC try to eliminate leadership of Defense Ministry/GHQ. Before personnel change, FSB is in knockdown — missed Putin’s bridge explosion. Defense Ministry can now blame FSB for the future South loss. Isn’t it obvious who made an explosion? Truck arrived from RF.

Yeah that tells us who did it, whether it was a bomb inside the truck or a missile strike, a drone, or suicide bomb. Or even a Russian cigarette. No wait, it doesn’t does it?

BUT if the "truck explosion" happened on the outer segment (the one in the water) and also caused the rail line above to catch fire, why wasn't the segment in-between destroyed also?

This is a completely obvious target.

However Ukraine had no overt weapon with the range and accuracy to hit it, that could get through Russian air defenses.

And having covert operatives in Russia does not mean that its easy to obtain a truckload of explosives from Russian sources, or persuade or subvert the Russians required to make this possible.
