They aren’t losing to “that guy”. The operations are being run by NATO advisors. Zelenskyy is about as competent a military leader as a bunch of keyboard warriors.

Simpletons who’ve never strapped on the uniform don’t have a clue what’s required to keep equipment which sees months of rough use in the field in good working order.

Logistics are the biggest untold story of this war.

When the war first began, I was in the camp of those who thought Ukraine would get steamrolled. After the first week or so, I started looking at the logistical issues, and what jumped out at me was the contradiction between the size of Russia's army, and the claimed number of tanks, APC's, artillery tubes, etc.. Including the massive claimed tank reserves, etc..

What jumped out at me was the realization that there was no way in hell an army that size could possibly maintain properly all those weapons system. Flat-out impossible. Then I started doing more digging, and started finding stuff long predating the war about rumors of horrible maintenance, theft, cannibalization, etc..

But it all comes down to too much claimed equipment being maintained by far too few people. Just doesn't add up.

I don’t think that you or Lurker were setting policy. I give you, Lurker, and any other veteran the benefit of the doubt that they served honorably and did what they had to do. I don’t blame the veterans for the politicians’ legacy. That is what the anti-war protesters did to servicemen returning from Vietnam.

Say, aren’t you the guy who said that you won’t vote for a Republican who advocates eliminating military aid to Ukraine?

It is along the same line as post #44 in that thread. Several other posters got the joke without needing an explanation. Read through the previous posts on that page and if you have a specific question I will try to help you out.

Maybe so…I’m not convinced that is the only possible explanation though.

My point is we are emptying old inventory.

And the fun fact is to imagine what we would to the the Ruskie Army with a few F35s, F22’s, and A10’s.

Congress should be pissed we wasted money on leading edge tech, when we could have beaten the Russians with friggin P51s.

reminded of a scene in “All Quiet on the Western Front” where Katz tells his boys to watch out for short rounds from friendly fire, because all the German guns had their barrels shot out years before, and their accuracy was garbage.

It's worth remembering that prior to this Ukrainian counter-offensive, the pro-Russian crowd was crowing about the irresistable quantities of Russian artillery rounds raining down upon the poor Ukrainians, and that the Russia infantry just had to walk on it and mop up.

Well...that many rounds chews through tubes, which may explain why we're no longer hearing about the same magnitude of shelling. Tubes are worn out, and they don't have the logistical support to replace them any time soon.

Nice thing is that the entire rest of the world’s militaries are thinking the exact same thing.

Vietnam vets hold a special place for me. They went and did a job and were hated for it, yet they suffered tremendously and lost a lot. They all had a big dump taken on them. I ever meet any, I always say, brother, you had it tough, but you’re my brother and I appreciate what you did.

I was wondering if they have been using them so much that they are meeting their need to go to depot level to get worn parts replaced.
Or since their German, like a BMW, there is planned obsolescence based on material failure. If the part is getting close to it’s life cycle they replace the part. So if the tube can reasonably fire 10k rounds before failure could happen they pull the gun off the line at 9k just in case to replace the tube and worn breach.
