As Nuclear War Looms: Does Russia Have a Right to its Own Monroe Doctrine?
American Thinker ^ | Oct. 6, 2022 | Selwyn Duke

With news that Israeli intelligence has detected an “irregular presence” of nuclear-capable Russian bombers near Finland and retired general David Petraeus casually saying NATO would likely sink Vladimir Putin’s Black Sea fleet if Russia used a tactical nuclear weapon in Ukraine, it’s perhaps time for a few questions:

First, can we discuss a situation that could very well result in thermonuclear war — and the end of life as we know it — intelligently and rationally? Or must all questions about our Dr. Strangelove policy be met with childish name-calling (e.g., “stooge of Putin!”) designed to silence debate?

What would stop Putin is:
A) Russia doesn’t have the strength to conquer all of Europe and he knows it

B) the attempt to do so would cause a nuclear war.

Are you willing to engage in a nuclear war to prevent the Donbass and Crimea from joining Russia? I am not.

Are you willing to risk a nuclear war testing the hypothesis that he’s just bluffing and in the end would back down rather than resorting to the use of nuclear weapons? Again, I’m not willing to test that hypothesis - Donbas and Crimea are not vital to our national security.

As for the high minded morality - are you sure a majority of people in those regions does not want to join Russia? Why not let them do so if that is their wish?

If Ukraine does not like being a buffer state....tough. That’s the hand history and geography has dealt them. Being a neutral non aligned country is not some awful fate. Just ask Austria.

I’m not willing to risk a war or to engage in war to change Ukraine’s status from buffer state to NATO member. There is no need for us to engage in such brinksmanship.

“As Nuclear War Looms: Does Russia Have a Right to its Own Monroe Doctrine?”

A truly stupid question!

Right? By whose definition of “right”?

The much better question is, does Russia have the force and willpower to get what it wants.

It’s always about power and will. “Rights” are invented delusions.

I would love to see someone explain this US war with Russia to President Monroe. And then for grins, tell him how much money was being spent on it. And then for extra fun tell him it’s ok, our money is a fiat currency and we can print all we need. Close by asking if he ever thinks he would like his Johnson cut completely off.

It would have been a sight to see his reaction.

If Russia is willing to use nuclear weapons in order to subjugate a neighbor, that neighbor was right to seek allies.

And those allies would be right to confront a rogue country willing to use nukes to subjugate a neighbor.

Who are we to determine the rights of a sovereign nation.

The truth is rights belong to those that can defend them. If you don't think so just watch 30 FBI thugs invade a preacher's home and terrorize his children. He has several Constitutional rights that would prevent that yet they did it to him.

The Constitution today is no more effective for defense of your rights than is a restraining order to prevent an abusive husband from killing his wife.

I've said for years that the Constitution is a museum piece for those who can't hire a legal team to defend them against the State.

"...First, can we discuss a situation that could very well result in thermonuclear war — and the end of life as we know it — intelligently and rationally? ...

Who the hell said anything about thermonuclear war?

I don't think this pinhead knows what he's talking about because he's suggesting the use of hydrogen bombs, not plain ol' atom bombs. I suspect he doesn't understand that's a whole 'nother category of bomb and mistakenly believes that fission bombs also are "thermonukular" because they get really, really hot.

Not even the most rabidly anti-Rooskie (or pro-Ukraine) military analyst I've seen has suggested Russia intends breaking out the H-bombs.

"The much better question is, does Russia have the force and willpower to get what it wants."

As the old saying goes, Might makes Right.

Or as paraphrased by Maha Rushie said in his First 35 Undeniable Truths of Life,

#6: Ours is a world governed by the aggressive use of force.

We can all be self righteous in our belief as the idiots in DC get us all killed over our elites corrupt piggy bank known as Ukraine. I personally vote get the heck out and quit screwing around. We should have made Russia a fellow friend in 1991 but noooo. We needed them as a bogey man while china gets our jobs, factories and more powerful.

Everyone can be safe in their righteousness of their pro/con opinion if or when nukes start falling. Hope it keeps everyone cheering on Biden’s incompetence as gogogo Ukraine.

“As the old saying goes, Might makes Right.”

Or, as a famous person once said...

“You only own that which you are willing and able to defend using whatever means at your disposal.”

The constant nuke crap is coming from media in the west. Done on purpose and 24/7 as a propaganda tool.

Like we need more fear porn to keep this stupid war in Ukraine going.

I didn’t say they were intruded upon by the Belgians and the Irish. I said they get extremely touchy about any outside power controlling Belgium or Ireland.

Ironic the leftist Democrats used to be the anti war party. Anyone remember how Democrats screamed that Reagan was going to get us into nuclear war with the Russians?

That's what its been about all the while. It's strange that leftists assumed for fifty years that Russia needed a security zone stretching half way across Europe to feel really secure, and now that the Democratic Party is further left than it was in all that time, the Democrats think we could get away with extending NATO to Moscow's doorstep. The far left seems to agree with them and isn't making any objections.

The point isn't that Russia needs to control Ukraine. It's that we don't want them to feel that we control it or want to control it. Overthrowing the government of Ukraine in 2004-5 was a mistake. So is saying that Putin needs to be replaced.
