New York Times journalist Maggie Haberman said former President Trump “seems to be leaning into racist statements” after his most recent attack on Elaine Chao, his former transportation secretary.
Haberman told CNN’s Don Lemon on Wednesday that Trump has been leaning into racist comments more “aggressively” since he left office, and she expects more of it to continue.

The Democrats are going to toss everything against the kitchen wall before the midterms, pull out the racist card against conservative every chance they get - because they know they’re going to lose.
Lefties go bat-s**t crazy when losing.
She is Chinese. She has many business dealings with China via her family. Is she compromised? We do not know. This is simply fact, not racism.
Not the same person.
Is Elaine, as Rosie Odonnell says, one of those “Ching Chong” people?
It’s borrowed from corporatespeak.
I’m convinced that, somewhere in the corporate world, there are folks who sit around and invent new words and catch phrases that they use to change things from plain, simple, understandable English to corporate gobbledygook.
Not long ago I was filling out a form from my employer that asked if I were “trustful.”
Say what?
Does it mean, am I trustworthy- others can trust me- or that I am trusting- that I trust others? And whichever it is, why not use that perfectly good word?
I frequently read things that my high school English teachers ( never mind college professors) would have called me out on, and would have asked me to please explain, in plain English this time.
I suppose, in this instance, if you want to call someone racist but don’t have an actual evidence, you just say that he is “leaning into” racism. It’s vague enough to use so you don’t need to have any evidence, as in the person used a racial slur.
The one major example [only?] is, “the China-loving wife of Mitch McConnell.”
So what? Would it have been okay to say “Ukraine-loving wife?”
This is all nonsense.
I love that Trump is calling her ‘Maggot Hagerman’ this week on Truth and other places.
Any criticism or insult to anyone not white is “racist”.
As is any such to a woman, is a “sexist”.
