Just a check on Google shows even CNN is siting the rise in NYC crime:
“The New York Police Department tracked increases across every major crime category. The city recorded a 41% increase in overall major crime through the first months of 2022 compared to the same period last year, including a nearly 54% increase in robberies, a 56% increase in grand larceny incidents and a 22% increase in rape reports, the data shows”.

According to this list, NYC ranks 59 out of the top 100 big cities as far as violent crime per capita. (2019 data). So not horrible but certainly not the best either.

Of course that missed all the violence in the BLM riots of 2020.
And cities have a natural incentive to underreport their crimes.
