Russia loses even more prominence in the sky. The International Civil Aviation Organization, a UN agency dedicated to studying the problems of the sector as well as promoting unique regulations and standards for world aeronautics, resolved yesterday to expel Russia from its governing body. The decision was made yesterday, during one of the days of its General Assembly that is being held in Montreal, Canada. The invasion of Ukraine and the collateral effects of this action have been the compelling arguments for a decision unprecedented since the founding of ICAO in 1944.
Russia needed a minimum of 86 votes to remain on the 36-state ICAO council. He did not get them after counting the vote of 170 member countries of an organization that has 190 members. Despite the complaints of the Moscow delegation demanding a second vote, the decision was irrevocable...

As I understand it, just from reading/seeing stuff on the internet, Russian civil aviation is going to have major problems for some time to come.
Russia seized all foreign-leased aircraft within Russia upon the E.U. setting sanctions. They then re-registered them as Russian. They will never likely be able to get genuine parts, software updates, etc. for them and the planes themselves will be restricted to domestic flights only.
The likelihood is that no one will leasing commercial aircraft to Russia any time soon. Many Russian-built airliners are still dependent on parts brought in from nations that are boycotting Russia.
Concerned about refugees, U.N. experts add to censure of Trump move
Screw the UN and their Globalist NWO.
More childish behavior from Biden and western countries.
A quick response would have been: "That's how the Democrats do it in the United States."
The irony is, that’s exactly what France expects certain EU states to do if they “voted the wrong way”.
I would’ve been a bit more undiplomatic, and added: “Consider yourself lucky we didn’t follow your sham referendum playbook and send 90% of the people who might’ve voted for you out of the room before the vote.”
You are correct, seizing all foreign planes is just another thug move by Putin, that will further cripple his country in the long run.
But if you listen to the Putinists on FR, it’s all part of his noble fight for Christian values.
The enemy of your enemy is the enemy of your enemy who is the enemy of your enemy.
Since all world leaders these days seem to want us dead it is kinda pointless to name-call some and not others.
What is your obsession here posting this, are you under the mistaken impression that Putin is a ally of Donald Trump or something?
Yes, we know Biden is a fraud and an asshole, what does that have to do with the subject here?
Seizure of the planes was in response to us and the Ew seizing 600 billion of Russian gold and currency on deposit.
Most of them have not crossed the line of refrain from being a mass murderer that Putin has.
This drawing false equivalencies is a leftist tactic. The same people said we were no better than USSR back in the day.
They seized it from all foreign countries, including countries that had nothing to do freezing their assets.
The West is like the guy that hires a hit man and then says “Go ahead and prove I pulled the trigger.”
To start history with the Putin invasion is foul propaganda.
“Yes, we know Biden is a fraud and an asshole, what does that have to do with the subject here?”
Some folk here are a bit deranged on these things. Their logic seems to be:
* Biden is bad
* Putin hates Biden
* Thus Putin is good
* Putin also hates America
* Thus America is also bad
This logic is more and more making this site seem like an American hating sister site to DU.
“But if you listen to the Putinists on FR, it’s all part of his noble fight for Christian values.”
You mean those Christian values of:
*Killing people
*Coveting their lands
*Stealing their lands
I seem to recall Christians getting some commandments or something instructing us not to do these things.
Seizure of the planes was in response to us and the Ew seizing 600 billion of Russian gold and currency on deposit.
Just to clarify things, as the title of the article is misleading. Russia was not expelled from ICAO. It only failed to be reelected to the governing body of the organization, as it failed to get enough votes in its favour. Rather understandably - if you invade neighbouring country and murder its citizen you don’t make many friends. Plus with Russia being currently banned from most of the international airspace ICAO will probably be better served with countries actually involved in International Civil Aviation being present on its board of governors.
