Russia supplied around 40% of all the gas consumed in the EU in 2021. Germany is especially reliant on this supply of cheap gas. Gas only generates about 15% of the country’s electricity but many rely on it for heating and it is vital to heavy industries such as petrochemicals that use a lot of energy.
Drastic measures are now necessary to secure alternative supplies, reduce gas demand and prepare for the possibility of shortages this winter. The EU’s Save Gas for a Safe Winter program aims to reduce overall gas demand by 15% across the bloc this winter by asking people to turn down thermostats in homes and offices, for example. Further measures are expected in the coming days.
The Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline won’t be delivering gas to Europe anytime soon. Photo: AFP / dpa / Jens Buttner / The Conversation The good news for supply to Europe is that its other sources of pipeline gas – Norway, North Africa and Azerbaijan – are all flowing normally. Winter storage is over 80% full, which is well ahead of the EU’s deadline to hit this milestone by the end of October.
Europe’s ability to get through the winter without a gas supply crisis will depend in large part on the weather: not just how cold it is, but also how sunny and windy, as gas backs up renewable power generation in many countries.
Otherwise, Europe needs to attract flexible LNG cargoes to Europe (that is, supplies that are not tied into long-term contracts which dominate in Asia). EU member states and members of the European Economic Area are expected to import 41 billion cubic meters more LNG than in 2021, covering 67% of the expected drop in Russian imports.
This remarkable progress was aided by China’s LNG demand falling almost 25% this year compared to last due to its “Zero Covid” policy and the slowdown in its economy. Nevertheless, this still leaves a significant supply gap and there are warning signs of growing competition from other parts of Asia for winter LNG supplies.
Whoever blew that pipeline deserves the death penalty.
The pipelines are now empty. Sea water can now flow into the ruptures effectively destroying the lines for ever
Russia lacks the technical ability and means to salvage them
I’m so old I can remember when technology was used to make people’s lives better rather than worse.
Yeh, I don’t think so. 😉
Have been watching and investing time in what is nothing less than gargantuan Jezreel parallel coastal energy ocean called Leviathan and Tamar for years.
Europe is already okay until March and April, as the detail is cyphered at the video posted above.
(I paste again here for this page.)
This is an OS video from a guy who I don’t agree with on a number of points, but this video is still a bit informative on both the pipelines, as well as current gas storage levels the EU already has, which is enough already to last until March or April —
However, as this was all ultimately about power and control over European economic, finance, and military policy, and using energy to achieve the goal, even some of my non-Believer colleagues were suggesting as far back as 2018, that Russia and it’s subordinate CIS structure was going to continue building it’s offensive military infrastructure, so to make a move on Israel’s Eastern Med ocean of energy. It’s already massive, but they are discovering new oil and gas reserves underneath, get this... the Jezreel/Megiddo plain!
These are very deep, but they are going for it!
There are also significant Texas based companies (one of them Cnristian), which are investing heavy right there.
So you are likely going to be proven correct soon!
🎚🇺🇸🇮🇱🇺🇦🇷🇺🎚
I have read some environmental activist worrying about all the methane released from these pipelines.
Global warming end is now even nearer!
“The pipelines are now empty. Sea water can now flow into the ruptures effectively destroying the lines for ever”
You are correct.
Actually completely off through September.
Only enough methane for positive pressure at depth was in NS1 or NS2.

Then there was this -
-The scheduled “maintenance was to last until September 4, 2022, however, my understanding is that it was stretched all the way to this —
https://www.navaltoday.com/2022/09/20/russian-navys-baltic-fleet-ships-hunt-down-enemy-subs/
Which included Russian anti-ASW anti-mine hunter “vettes” like these —

... to keep NATO surface warfare surveillance assets away, even while most were clear over in the Atlantic, on a large scale non-classified 1.5 year scheduled exercise here —
MARCOM
Exercise Location - Troia, Portugal
Involved 18 NATO ASW / anti-sea mine vessels, and 48 published underwater assets, and included myltiple university and R&D orgs. Officially began on 25 SEP 2022.
Many of the false reports which were pervasive this past week, and predominantly originating from FSB and SVR NGO’s, claimed to have spotted NATO ASW and a.ti-mine vessels were actually in Portugal, up and around Bornholm.
I used the NATO ship numbers from the actual photos being posted as though from Bornholm I tracked from here —
https://www.marinevesseltraffic.com/2013/02/military-sh
and the exact ships (location and detailed schedules) had been, and were within 150nm from Troia, Portugal.
Online photo’s of ships were real, but from all throughout the past several years.
Others are lining up. Unfortunately Spain doesnt vote till next December, but the polling is shaping up well.
As for now, for this summer, add Sweden and Bulgaria. Some of the smaller countries are pretty based as a rule, like the Czechs and Balts.
Makes sense, but no one has said that. I have been in the industry for over 40 years and understand how we do pipelines in the US, but no one has addressed how the Russians do it. Halliburton trucked over to Russia to retool most of their Oil and Gas fields after the fall of the Soviet Union and found that they were absolutely ‘turn of the century’ equipped (turn of the nineteenth century, not twentieth). If Russia damaged them as part of a ‘false flag’, in order to blame the west and give them cover for what they are doing, then they would have left them in a situation where they could be repaired. If they cannot be repaired, then it probably was the West (or Islamic) that damaged them
We’ll see.
A Freeper on an unrelated thread used Ceaser’s phrase cui bono? who benefits?
I’ll go with the Arabs. Russia was in Syria in large measure to prevent an Arap pipeline to Europe. They thus had it in for Russia and destroyed the primary Russian effort.
>>Global warming end is now even nearer!
Any little bit will help this winter.
It will not be replaced in sufficient quantities in time to prevent the Great Reset.
Europe, you are the weakest link. Dutifully send your manufacturing to the U.S. before exiting the first world.
I believe that is exactly what will happen.
Oil, Natural Gas - etc.
Israel just made a deal with the EU and Egypt this past week.
The timing is ironic.
From eating German food?
Well, the day after the bombs a pipeline opened between Norway and Poland.
Oooh, a conspiracy? Poland finally getting revenge upon Nazi Germany?
Why the ‘Ell not? Anything to divert from the fact that BeijingBiden said that he would do it.
Good post.
I would add that a shortfall isn’t the only problem the Euros will encounter. PRICE will be a major factor, possibly a debillitating factor.
I know someone in Sweden whose energy bill went from 20,000 krona to 140,000 krona. That’s just crazy... thought they misspoke telling me this.
If it continues as it is, families and businesses will get crushed and the consequences will be huge.
The Uke trolls assume the Euros can just suck it up... or want them to.
Goals.
In desperation to keep warm this winter Europeans will be burning anything they can find creating air quality akin to the 19th century. One could hope this experience would demonstrate that the idea of renewable energy being able to sustain a modern society is a lie.
People have to adjust their mindsets to the concept of scarcity.
There will not always be enough of things, regardless of price.
Population grows and so does gas or oil consumption. Gas and oil flow do not grow the same rate. There WILL be scarcity, and the people who have enough win. The rest lose and die.
It’s that last point that is compelling. You don’t just decide to do without. Without is death.
This seems to be a popular concept. The pipelines are destroyed forever!!!
Except the exterior of those pipelines are exposed to seawater 24/7 and they are the same material external as internal.
Then there is the reality that those pipe sections were exposed to seawater exterior and interior both for weeks and months during original installation.
I have seen no Gasunie or GAZPROM statements saying the pipelines are destroyed forever. I *have* seen talk of a few weeks to do a repair, once funding is decided on.
Saw this on aother forum: "There are 642 LNG tankers in the world"
