Newsom blasts oil companies over disproportionately rising gas prices in California: ‘They’re ripping you off’

California Gov. Gavin Newsom is lashing out at oil companies who he says are “fleecing” Californians with gasoline prices that are rising disproportionately in the Golden State.

“The fact is, they’re ripping you off. Their record profits are coming at your expense,” Newsom said in a scathing video posted to Twitter Friday in which the governor called for a new windfall tax on oil companies.

Newsom said the windfall tax would “ensure these profits go directly back to help millions of Californians who are paying for this oil company extortion.”

Would this be the same Newsom?

Governor Newsom Takes Action to Phase Out Oil Extraction in California Published: Apr 23, 2021 California will work to end oil extraction as part of nation-leading effort to achieve carbon neutrality

Action will halt issuance of fracking permits by 2024

SACRAMENTO – Governor Gavin Newsom today directed the Department of Conservation’s Geologic Energy Management (CalGEM) Division to initiate regulatory action to end the issuance of new permits for hydraulic fracturing (“fracking”) by January 2024. Additionally, Governor Newsom requested that the California Air Resources Board (CARB) analyze pathways to phase out oil extraction across the state by no later than 2045.

“The climate crisis is real, and we continue to see the signs every day,” said Governor Newsom. “As we move to swiftly decarbonize our transportation sector and create a healthier future for our children, I’ve made it clear I don’t see a role for fracking in that future and, similarly, believe that California needs to move beyond oil.”

The oil companies should drive the California prices higher yet by throttling a refinery, to teach Pretty Boy a much-needed lesson.

"...over disproportionately rising gas prices in California: ‘They’re ripping you off’"

Odd. Night before last, I paid $2.99/gal for regular at Wal-Mart in Myrtle Beach, SC. Felt like I was stealing gas.

The usual blame-shifting and excuse making you get with Democrats. They do it because they know the MSM will let them get away with it. SSDD.

Typical politician. Blame someone else. He has no clue on how to run a business, let alone an oil company.

Only a few refineries produce gasoline according to the strict rules CA has. That’s why CA gasoline is so expensive. Because of CA regulations. It requires a more demanding and exacting process, so it costs more. Further the low number of refineries that make it, make it cost more as well.

Its on you (Gavin), slick.

Calif and the hated CARB have demanded ridiculous refining rules for years, resulting in the highest priced gas to be found.

Choke on it, liberals, you created it.

Taxes, taxes, taxes... They are not paying anymore than anyone else base price from the pipelines. In fact it all comes through Ca on its way to Nevada and Arizona. Az where it is cheap right now in comparison to the rest of the country.

Cause... Very little in taxs on the same base price Ca is paying from the same pipeline. This is all on California’s greed for taxes. And the dummies who are too stupid to do the math and keep buying it.

Earlier in the week, Newsom said he was relaxing regulations on refineries to bring the cost of gas down. It’s obviously a pre-midterms ploy. The cost of gas has been high for more than a year.
