I was fired from my nursing job this year for refusing to take “implicit bias” training. After 39 years of providing equal care to all my patients without regard to their race, I objected to a mandatory course grounded in the idea that I’m racist because I’m white. I fear every healthcare professional will soon be forced to make the same awful decision I did: Falsely admit to being racist or abandon the medical field.
My ordeal started in September 2021 when my employer, Dallas-based Baylor Scott & White Health, rolled out its annual training modules for clinical educators. The list included “Overcoming Unconscious Bias.” After viewing the interactive course, I contacted my supervisor and asked for a meeting with the chief nursing officer and the human resources director. The former sent a surrogate; the latter didn’t attend. After two meetings, it was clear that I wouldn’t be given an exemption. My supervisor told me, “I don’t want you to die on this cross.”
But I did. The idea of implicit bias is grounded in the belief that white people treat those who aren’t white worse than those who are. It’s part of the woke assumption that society, including healthcare, suffers from “systemic racism.” Accordingly, my own supposed implicit bias, which is a euphemism for ingrained racism, must be rooted out. Not only that, it must be replaced with preferential treatment for the nonwhite. I fail to see how real racial discrimination is justified by my nonexistent racism.
I knew it was coming, but I was still devastated when I was fired in February. I went from a six-figure job to zero income. The day I was fired I sold my car to make sure I’d have enough money to live on.

This is (so far) Maoism ‘struggle theory’ light.
In the same token, shouldn’t Black health care professionals be required to prove they are not descendants of Blacks who owned Black slaves? Otherwise everyone is guilty until proven innocent.

The purge continues
I am sorry this person lost their job. But the only way this stops is when people stop going along to get long.
Quit - better yet, make them fire you. Collect unemployment, get another job
"Implicit Bias?" How about "Explicit Bias" by the most prestigious management consulting firm in the world (you're gonna love it!):
Doesn’t she have a great lawsuit?
White nurses band together, threaten to walk out, and the policies will change in a hurry.
There is a nationwide nursing shortage. The turnover at my primary care physician’s office in my town of 25k it massive.
Standing up to the madness is the only way to stop it. If that means changing jobs, be prepared for that.
I don’t know. I gotta go through stupid training every year. It’s just part of corporate life. Spend basically a day every year going through how to handle customer data (I don’t), how to avoid unethical behavior making deals (I don’t make deals), plus of course the usual harassment bulldada, which of course these days includes “implicit bias”. Whatever, it’s corporate time, they’re paying for it, if that’s what they want me to do with the time they’re paying for, that’s what I’ll do. I’m not “confessing” to anything, just pushing stupid buttons.
Racism is a two way street and reverse racism exists also
It’s not professional service orgs - it’s mandatory training EVERYWHERE and being enforced by either some sort of government regulation or HR law. ESG funding is certainly part of it but I don’t think it would be this universally implemented.
CMS is in control. After decades in healthcare, I took a Fifty Percent paycut for not taking the covid vax. More to come with ensuring your health, our national defense, education of our posterity is all government controlled. Food is next and they have semi nationalized communication, commercial transportation.
There is no such thing as “reverse” racism.
Correct.
Make them live up to their book of rules. Alinsky 101.
It’s racist not to be racist.
Kinda like going to the Track and betting Win in a One Horse Race.
It’s really quite genius when you think about it.
Surprised it took this long.
The left has not just put Martin Luther King to the back of the bus but under the bus.
They have assassinated him again.
Racism is almost non-existent in today's America. Sure, there are small handfuls of people of each different group, be it based on nationality, race, sex, age, religion, etc., who don't like members of one or more other groups, in all different combinations (e.g., an old person hates a young person, or vice versa, or an asian person hates a black person, or vice versa, etc.). But who cares. No matter who you are, there will always be some people in some of those various groups who don't like you. Again, who cares. Just go about your business every day and ignore those people.
Again, racism and all those other -isms still exist today but they're almost non-existent. Don't be like all the Democrats/RINOs who compulsively obsess about that garbage 24/7. Go about your life and try to ignore or avoid the tiny amount of people who don't like you or who you don't like. Again, who cares if a tiny minority of people dislike you. It just doesn't matter.
The nursing shortage didn’t stop them from firing nurses who refused to take the vaccine.
In my not so humble opinion the racial bias is much more prevalent in the blacks medicians, (yes i meant to misspell a lot to represent screwer up med recrds)who have suddenly been thrust to the forefronts of every medical facility in this country. Thanks to barry afformative action prezidentiasy.
Lost and too stuped to no it, yet they are encouraged to vent at you with ‘white boards’ no less at their wait places.
