THERE ARE NEEDS, AND THEN THERE ARE NEEDS
"The bird does not sing because he has an answer; he sings because he has a song."
Old Chinese Proverb Peppermint Patty, of Peanuts cartoon fame, can be impatient at times. You Peanuts fans may recall one of those times. School was about to begin, and Peppermint Patty went shopping. She entered the store, and proceeded directly to the counter, and said, "Sir, I need some school supplies...some pencils, some paper, a loose-leaf binder, and some answers. I need a lot of answers." Most of you have probably encountered someone who continually experiences difficulty in distinguishing NEEDS from WANTS. Conventional wisdom: we need food, air, water and shelter to survive; however, we do not need exotic foods, Caribbean trade wind breezes, mountain spring water and a castle nestled in the hillsides of Scotland in order to survive. The massive explosion of commercialism causes great difficulties for many adults....those who talk about wants as though they are needs. Hmmmmmm, no wonder so many young people are confused. It is okay to simply be. Consider the bird who sings simply because she has a song. CAPT Lorenzo C. York, CHC, USN

Choose Wisely
What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Mark 8:36
Astronaut Chris Ferguson made a difficult decision as the commander of the flight crew scheduled for a journey to the International Space Station. But that decision didn’t have anything to do with the mechanics of flight or the safety of his fellow astronauts. Instead, it pertained to what he considers his most important work: his family. Ferguson opted to keep his feet planted firmly on Earth so he could be present for his daughter’s wedding.
We all face difficult decisions at times—decisions that cause us to evaluate what matters most to us in life, because one option comes at the expense of the other. Jesus aimed to communicate this truth to His disciples and a crowd of onlookers regarding life’s most important decision—to follow Him. To be a disciple, He said, would require them to “deny themselves” in order to walk with Him (Mark 8:34). They might have been tempted to spare themselves the sacrifices required of following Christ and instead seek their own desires, but He reminded them it would come at the price of that which matters much more.
We’re often tempted to pursue things that seem of great value, yet they distract us from following Jesus. Let’s ask God to guide us in the choices we face each day so we’ll choose wisely and honor Him. — Kirsten Holmberg
What choices have you made that drew you away from Jesus? What choices have drawn you nearer?
Jesus, I want to walk with You. Please help me to recognize and choose the paths that will foster a deeper connection to You.

Dear God: I ask that no Airman, Coast Guardsman, Marine, Sailor, Soldier, Reservist, National Guardsman, or Merchant Marine feel alone or forgotten.
O Israel, hope in the Lord; For with the Lord there is loving kindness, And with Him is abundant redemption. And He will redeem Israel From all his iniquities.

He Who blessed our forefathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - may He bless the fighters of the Israel Defense Force, who stand guard over our land and the cities of our G-d from the border of the Lebanon to the desert of Egypt, and from the Great Sea unto the approach of the Aravah, on the land, in the air, and on the sea.
May HASHEM cause the enemies who rise up against us to be struck down before them. May the Holy One, Blessed is He, preserve and rescue our fighting men from every trouble and distress and from every plague and illness, and may He send blessing and success in their every endeavor.
May He lead our enemies under their sway and may He grant them salvation and crown them with victory. And may there be fulfilled for them the verse: For it is Hashem, your G-d, Who goes with you to battle your enemies for you to save you.
G-d bless and keep your children safe, Alouette.

Howdy, Kathy.
Yes, it was a good day at the museum, though a little slow. It was REAL slow yesterday. I had one tour yesterday and two today but all were a lot of fun.
I guess people were taking advantage of the nice fall weather to get some yard work and such taken care of.
Speaking of weather, y’all had some wet weather over the past couple of days. I was shocked to see quite a bit of snow on the mountain peaks when I pulled up the cam for a minute yesterday. They were bare the last time I’d looked.
Did you find any “you” time today?

Howdy, luvie.
How’s your weekend been so far? Are they still saying you’ll have a nice cool-down tomorrow?
Fall has arrived here, at least for the next week. Does it ever feel great!

Hey there, radu!
It was pretty toasty today, but not awful. Tomorrow, 88 and maybe....just maybe...some thunderstorms. Fingers crossed.
I’m so glad it finally cooled off there. I know it has to be such a relief after the temps you’ve had the past week! Did it bring more folks to the museum?
