Hurricane Ian
NHC/NOAA ^ | 23 September 2022 | NHC/NOAA

Posted on 09/23/2022 2:32:24 AM PDT by NautiNurse

The late-blooming 2022 Atlantic Tropical Storm season is making up for lost time. A tropical system has developed in the Central Caribbean Sea. This storm system is forecast to threaten continental U.S. interests next week. While the tropical wave passed south of a key geographic area known as Hebert's Box #1, it will very likely pass through Hebert's Box #2. These boxes are useful as predictors of hurricanes that will strike South Florida. For more information about Hebert's Boxes, see Hebert Box. See graphic below which illustrated the Hebert's Boxes.

I would think not many these days. My family has been super duper afraid of CoVid despite what I tell them, and even they are open for gathering with others now. It seems that about May or June of THIS YEAR, they finally decided to try to go back to their old lives. I gave up that nonsense after the first “2 weeks to slow the spread” extension.

So older, educated, not poor.

Were residents who stayed terrified of catching the coof?

If so and any perished, Deep State has even more blood on its hands.

I live in Ft Myers. Evacuated to Vero Beach). My area suffered significant damage and flooding. one pErson witnessed the wind pick up an entire house and slam it into our plaza building where we have art class and rosary prayers. The Sanibel causeway bridge is severely damaged and not useable. Boats now only way to island. How many joyous trips I’ve made there to shell....... Man oh man. Satan had a field day with us.

My heart breaks for Ft Myers after seeing the photo of the causeway. We are former residents of Ft Myers, and the only way my husband keeps me happy is to take me there for a few weeks each summer. We recently began to look at buying a vacation home. I can’t imagine the devastation people are waking up to this morning.

I now hear the causeway broke in at least three different places. Sanibel is such a charming, sweet lovely place. God help us.

Hurricane Ian severs section of Sanibel Causeway
by: AP
Posted: Sep 29, 2022 / 09:17 AM EDT
Updated: Sep 29, 2022 / 10:01 AM EDT

Hurricane Ian left a path of destruction in southwest Florida, trapping people in flooded homes, destroying the only bridge to Sanibel Island, damaging the roof of a hospital intensive care unit and knocking out power to 2.5 million people as it dumped rain across the peninsula on Thursday.

One of the strongest hurricanes to ever hit the United States threatened catastrophic flooding around the state. Ian’s tropical-storm-force winds extended outward up to 415 miles (665 km), drenching much of Florida and the southeastern Atlantic coast.

With no electricity and patchy cellphone coverage, many calls for help weren’t getting through, even as emergency crews sawed through toppled trees to reach people in flooded homes. “If the line is busy, keep trying,” the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post early Thursday.

The National Hurricane Center said Ian became a tropical storm over land early Thursday and was expected to regain near-hurricane strength after emerging over Atlantic waters near the Kennedy Space Center later in the day, with South Carolina in its sights for a second U.S. landfall.

Good morning NautiNurse.
Your description was so detailed and good. What it is like to return home after a major hurricane.
Living in Los Angeles and never experiencing anything in my 81 years other than a strong wind event, it helps others of us understand what you are going through.
Major praise to God for you having electricity and a standing home!
Prayers for those who were not so blessed.
Polly

Likewise, I wonder how many have grown so distrustful of the “authorities” after they’ve cried wolf so many times, that they just didn’t believe that it would be very bad.

I mean, a combination of experience and listening to the “carbon is a pollutant” BS, the “plandemic” BS, and how many other examples where the government simply oversold the danger of something or other.

Not to mention that the minute you leave, you open your property to looters and such, so you don’t want that to happen.

My husband sent me the photo of the causeway, I’m at a loss for words. Our house was 2 miles from the causeway off of San Carlos, near the walmart. We had started looking for a mobile home to use on vacations. I love the area, and the old beach town vibe. Told our kids when we kick the bucket our ashes go near Lover’s Key. it feels like I lost my best friend this morning. Everyone down there is in my prayers.

Power went out about 5:30 yesterday evening and is still out. Thankfully sustained no damage to my house. Praying for the folks in Punta Gorda down to Naples. They got hammered! Will be a very long recovery.

My late great aunt was an upstate NY snowbird who spent her winters in Fort Myers. She had a lot of friends there, both Floridians and snowbirds from her winter home. I cleaned out her last home with my son about ten years ago. We took a break one afternoon to go to Sanibel. The area was charming and I could really understand the appeal. I think about the places she lived and how much damage they must have sustained. One was a mobile home, which she sold after repairing damage from Hurricane Wilma. She moved to Shell Point to have a more solid structure. I can’t imagine the condition of her ground floor unit now. So sad to see this. Fort Myers will rebuild, but things will change and much has been lost.
