OTTAWA — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has agreed to let a cabinet order enforcing mandatory COVID-19 vaccination requirements at the Canadian border expire at the end of this month.
The news was confirmed by two senior government sources, who spoke to The Canadian Press on the condition they not be named because they were not authorized to speak publicly.
The federal government is still deciding whether to maintain the requirement for passengers to wear face masks on trains and airplanes.
Masking rules for airplanes and trains are not contained in the same order and will be discussed separately.
The federal cabinet is meeting this afternoon but cabinet approval is not required to allow the order to expire, as the version agreed to in June said it would expire on Sept. 30.
The order that is expiring also affects mandatory and random testing for international travellers.
Not for the political prisoners... I mean citizens... though.

AND WHAT OF THE ARRIVE CAN APP, is it still being required so the federal giovernment of Canada can conduct surveillance on the amount of shopping Canadians do along the border, using the data for demographic analysis so they can manipulate taxes and mail use in USA by Canadians?

Agree. The cross-border trade and tourism industry is VERY reliant on having a free and open border (no restrictions).

The CDN $ certainly has taken a beating but I’m not sure how your conclusion applies... it wasn’t just going into Canada that was an issue. Going into the U.S. essentially has the same stipulations...

The feds want to keep it for surveillance puprposes. They have a list of Freedom Convoy Supporters they want to spy on, contrary to the Search provision of the Citizen Charter of Rights.Basically the feds want to conduct warrantless surveillance o n a bunch of cross border truckers who are Trump supporters and who want to starta a Canadian style MAGA party. Trudeau is scarfed to death of them.
The Arrive Can app will likely stay. I think its a travesty, the appwas used to illegally make people quarantine for no reason whatsoever.It was like House Arrest.
If Canada lifts its vaccine mandate, then U.S. tourists can travel north of the border freely. The U.S. vaccine requirement for travelers would not apply to U.S. citizens or legal residents returning home.
You have some very valid points in your post. Trudeau bullied and sullied the Freedom Convoy supporters BIG-TIME - and a lot of them are still either in jail or awaiting trial.

I suspect it will now go too. It’s no accident that this announcement came right after Pierre Poilievre was elected leader of the Conservatives and it seems like what Brandeau is doing is trying to take some wind out of those sails.
It seems like this is a telltale sign that there is an election in the offing....

P.S. — I get regular online updates from a North American trade publication, and it seems that every week there’s another article about how awful things are on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls due to the near-total collapse of tourism from the U.S.
