TRANSLATION: The U.S. dollar is very strong right now, and Canada is losing out on billions of dollars in tourism due to its stupid vaccine requirement at the border.

Agree. The cross-border trade and tourism industry is VERY reliant on having a free and open border (no restrictions).

The U.S. dollar is very strong right now, and Canada is losing out on billions of dollars in tourism...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The CDN $ certainly has taken a beating but I’m not sure how your conclusion applies... it wasn’t just going into Canada that was an issue. Going into the U.S. essentially has the same stipulations...
The official position of the U.S. government is still this… for air and land travel
https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/international-travel/emergencies/covid-19-faqs-for-travel-to-the-us-information.html
“Foreign national air travelers to the United States are required to be fully vaccinated and to provide proof of vaccination status prior to boarding an airplane to fly to the United States, with only limited exceptions...”
https://www.cbp.gov/newsroom/coronavirus
“TRAVEL ALERT: Beginning on January 22, 2022, DHS will require non-U.S. individuals seeking to enter the United States via land ports of entry and ferry terminals at the U.S.-Mexico and U.S.-Canada borders to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and provide related proof of vaccination, as COVID-19 cases continue to rise nationwide.
These new restrictions will apply to non-U.S. individuals who are traveling for both essential and non-essential reasons. They will not apply to U.S. citizens, Lawful Permanent Residents, or U.S. nationals.”
My wife and I canned a trip over this.
But I think Mr. Polilievre is greasing the skids here.
Trudeau has full throated opposition right now.
Amen! For at least two years and I think 3, I could not enter Alberta at Sweetgrass, Montana for my annual trip down the Yukon River where I spend thousands of dollars in the local economies. All because I would not take an experimental drug. Like me, I imagine millions of people cancelled trips into beautiful Canada costing local Canadian businesses millions.
The whole policy of not letting Americans “drive through” Alberta because of an alleged disease that, if you get it, amounts to not much more than a headache (for most) is probably the dumbest government policy in the entire history of dumb government policies. You might say that Covid is now the all time KING of dumbness for government politicians and agencies worldwide.
