Russian-installed officials in the Kherson region of Ukraine said they have decided to hold a referendum on joining Russia and have urged the Kremlin to give its permission as soon as possible, the separatist head of the region said on Tuesday.
In a post on the Telegram messaging app, Vladimir Saldo, the Russian-appointed head of Kherson, said he hoped Kherson would become "a part of Russia, a fully-fledged subject of a united country."

Putin looking extra bloated and sick on TV today. Chemo weekend in Sochi didn’t go according to plan.
Let them go. Ukraine then joins NATO along with 2 more. US gets out.
“Russian-Backed Separatists in Kherson Say They Will Hold Vote on Joining Russia”
Hard to see this being much different than removing Kosovo from Serbia. The people in Kosovo also didn’t want to be ruled by a foreign entity.
“Let them go” - Ukraine controls a large chunk of Donetsk and an increasing chunk of Luhansk. You’re asking the Ukrainians to retreat from their own territory?

“There is no Kosovo…only US-backed separatists”
Don’t say stuff like that - the Neocons here will run an use it.
Apparently begins Friday - although Putin himself has not yet officially agreed to this.
A vote at this point is meaningless.
You drive the Ukrainians out of their own land.
Then hold a vote among the Russian occupiers, that’s probably not even going to be a fair vote.
That’s like someone invading your home and kicking you out. And then holding a vote to transfer your home to themselves.
*You’re asking the Ukrainians to retreat from their own territory?*
The concept of self determination would suggest the majority ethnic Russians would prefer their own kind meaning join Russia. They could be like the Israeli Arabs living the West Bank with full representation but it looks like the Ukrainians don’t care for the Russians-can’t blame them. Did the Soviets steal the land during the Cold War?
Europe is better off with an ununited German population-spread out. All Russians united are trouble.
In the 1991 Ukrainian Independence Referendum, in Kherson Oblast, 90% voted yes.
Pretty soon our southwest will want to join Mexico. South Africa was barren, so were the Falklands. Weren’t the haloes there first? What about the Jooz in Jereusalem? How would a convention of the states divvy up the US? It would be awesome.
So then you're against this Kherson vote.
Since I don’t have a say I don’t care. Sounds like a catch-22.
