CEOs Succumbing To The Great Resignation: Prioritizing C-Suite Mental Health

The “Great Resignation” is causing waves across the workforce, but not in places you might expect. While plenty of attention has been devoted to Gen Z employees switching jobs in record numbers, new data shows the C-suite is struggling too.

Deloitte reports around 70% of high-level executives are seriously considering quitting their jobs, largely to improve their emotional well-being. In fact, these departures are already underway. According to a recent report conducted by Challenger, Gray & Christmas, over 650 CEOs left their jobs in 2022.

What’s behind this exodus of leaders?

Workers across all industries have been deeply impacted by mental health challenges, exacerbated by COVID-19, rising economic uncertainty, 40-year high inflation, and global conflict. The C-suite is no exception.

Does no one in any organization say “The buck stops here” and take responsibility for results?

It’s because the rank and file workforce in the US absolutely sucks! A bunch of entitled babies that complain about every thing possible.

Rather than quit, I am doing a slow burn phase out. Riding it out until drain plug is pulled, but not allowing myself any further stress. “Whatever” is my current management approach. The end is coming soon, but why kill myself in the meantime?

Our society, more and more all the time, is not building anything, it’s about devouring the old golden goose that died, until it’s all gone. It’s why we are collapsing, apathy, no one really wants to do anything but take what they can before it’s all gone.

Well that’s sure to make a man out of those female CEO’s!

By the way; what is C-Suite? This is the first time I’ve seen or heard of it.

The buck stops nowhere in corporate offices.

My experience was far different as an Army officer. Drilled into us was the mantra, "everything your unit does, or fails to do, is your responsibility, and yours alone."

I learned that lesson during my first ARTEP/tac eval, as a Chaparral Platoon Leader. When my platoon failed, the fecal matter came rolling all over me. After a month of being reminded, I said, "I get it...it's my neck on the line."

It was a great learning experience. I've tried to lead my life that way, taking responsibility for my actions and my family.

That lesson seems to have been forgotten today, when no one was held accountable for the disaster in Afghanistan. No one was fired, although the chain of command was derelict in their duties.

I was tangentially a part of a local Nike Hercules battery's Nuclear Surety Inspections from 77-78. I was the Augmentation Reserve Force CO, to respond to attacks at that missile site. I assembled 40 soldiers to assist that unit when the need arose.

The outbriefings were pure pucker factor. The entire chain of command attended to include the Deputy CG of 32nd AADCOM. Should that battery fail its NSI, the General was there to relieve that chain of command, up to the Group Commander.

I don't recognize today's military, with a chain of command that is spineless, woke, and not mission oriented.

I think a big part of it, and which the article is too cowardly to admit, is the insane wokeness in all its demeaning and destructive forms that they’ve been forced to accept and implement.

Corporation boards/owners try to push responsibility onto the C-level executives (CEO, CFO, CIO, etc.) but corporations came into existence to avoid individual liability.

If one is truly capable of operating as a C-level executive, they're capable of running their own operation. The C-level executive positions are then filled with women and minorities who think it's prestige when it's a sentencing.

Which is why all the commercials are black people, it’s the path of least resistance, they figure nobody will complain about it. And they’re pretty much right.

Institutional investors are a lot like Deep State.

They don’t hire the front office appearance types for brains. Or b@lls.

What it is is the realization how much life has been sacrificed in pursuit of “stuff”. Over the years staff has been laid off and the remaining people took on the extra load. After that happens a couple dozen times people are working 16 to 18 hours a day. Covid came along and things slowed down and it gave everyone a chanc to look around and find out just how much of their lives they missed.

Once a company appoints a Diversity Officer their days are numbered. Mission Statements become Statements of Purpose. The word “community” replaces “shareholder” and its all downhill from there.
