The Ukrainian army’s counteroffensive around the city of Kharkiv in northeastern Ukraine starting on Sept. 6 destroyed half of the best tank division in the best tank army in the Russian armed forces.
A hundred wrecked or captured tanks in a hundred furious hours. That’s how much destruction the Ukrainians inflicted on the Russian 4th Guards Tank Division, part of the elite 1st Guards Tank Army, the Russian army’s best armor formation.
Now the 1st GTA is retreating north in order to preserve what remains of its front-line divisions. But the damage the tank army has suffered could have lasting implications—and not just for Russia’s 200-day-old wider war in Ukraine.
The 1st GTA “had been one of the most prestigious of Russia’s armies, allocated for the defense of Moscow, and intended to lead counterattacks in the case of a war with NATO,” the U.K. Defense Ministry explained. “It will likely take years for Russia to rebuild this capability.”

Tanjs have to be used in a combined arms method. Troops are deployed well away from the tank to suppress short range anti tank assets. Further out is covered by drones, helicopters and scouts. At extreme distance there may be radar pickets scanning the ground. All of this is coordinated by a battle controller. Everyone is connected by cypher radios. The Russians are doing none of this.

Stopped right there. Anyone who believes this is Ukraine doing this is a fool. This is done by "contractors" for Democrats in the U.S.

The vaunted Russian military has been fully exposed for the sham that it is.
I'll repeat this point too: based on the horseshit condition of their military and the Russian's lack of ability to protect their backsides & supply lines, along with the shoddy condition of their military's equipment I have doubts that their nukes are even in good enough shape to fire and hit a target.

Correct. My understanding is that many of the ones captured this week were in maintenance yards.
Tanks that had been damaged in earlier fights, recovered by the Russians, but not yet in a useable state.

The problem for Russia is that the tank corps are professionals while the infantry are conscripts, and conscripts cannot be sent over the border.
That is one reason the armor has consistently been so vulnerable.

1st Guards Tank Army will return with their dreaded mint condition T-34s and SU-100s. Ukraine will quiver and shake with dread and stink with the fear sweats.

not 12K, are you nuts, it was more like 120K in just 100 hours. Russia tottaly controls all of Ukraine, except Kyiv and some other small unimportant areas.

Wow, so true. Information is reaching the streets and at the level where information can be most effective, the people getting hidden eyewitness information and knowledge under the radar and talking to each other.
