During the Overtime segment of Friday’s “Real Time,” host Bill Maher said Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s (R) program busing migrants to New York City, Washington, D.C., and Chicago has called the bluff of liberals in those cities and exposed the “hypocrisy” of people on the left saying, “let’s have open borders or close to it,” “but not in my backyard.”
Maher said, “It is an interesting question for liberals to be like, hey, let’s have open borders or close to it, and then when they come, but it’s not in our states. And the Texas Governor kind of called their bluff. He was like, well, you like immigrants so much? Have some of ours.”

I would like to ask a liberal exactly what does “sanctuary” mean? You can’t give sanctuary to people you want to exclude. How does that work?

In this case, sanctuary was just virtue signaling to shame others cities and towns.

I’ve seen a lot of media stories about how these liberal states don’t want those “immigrants from Texas”.
Which is disgustingly dishonest reporting. They aren’t from Texas.

I am hoping for Abbot and DeSantis to bus them to places like Martha's Vineyard, Kennebunkport, Beverly Hills and others.
The military will be mobilized so fast we will wonder if Mexico has declared war on us.

Maher makes one interesting point - then has some DC political hack talk about “George Bush was a welcoming Republican” and a jazz musician who give us some cheap slogans.
Basically useless.

For those NOT from Texas - the papers this morning had a story about some miserable stupid group putting up 6 million dollars to defeat Governor Abbott.
If Austin and Houston keep gaining people, six million will buy a lot of votes. God help us if lose Abbott.

I don’t know what’s going on with Maher these days, he’s starting to make sense.

For those NOT from Texas - the papers this morning had a story about some miserable stupid group putting up 6 million dollars to defeat Governor Abbott. Is it something like “It Could Happen?” I saw one of their TV ads last night and the voiceover guy sounded demonic. He also spewed outright lies.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Soros is funding this.

Anyone who lives or grew up in North Jersey, Long Island, Westchester, and SW CT knows the type well - women who will put up “hate has no home” and “I believe” signs will turn into vicious attack dogs if you even mentioned redrawing the school district boundaries or put in even a small voluntary bussing program.

Would love for them to go for Greenwich CT or Scarsdale, NY, but know the good wealthy libs there would just have them moved to Port Chester or Yonkers before sundown.

What’s interesting is that the word “sanctuary” has strong religious roots.
So it’s rather ironic that leftist atheists would embrace using such a religious symbol.
But I imagine part of the reason for them doing so is that it appeals to useful idiots - their biggest constituency.

I keep going back to basic principles when trying to understand the rationale of Texas paying for bus tickets to sanctuary locales (states and cities). So here is my thought:
- Calculate the annual cost, per head, of providing housing, schooling, food, and other welfare
- Determine the cost of a bus ticket, or the cost of chartering a bus to specific locales
- If it costs less for a bus ticket, then do it.
So, for Texas, the state SAVES money in the long run providing a path to the sanctuary locales. It's the economics, stupid.
Which is why Chicago, New York, and Wash-DC are crying so hard. The burden is being shifted onto them. "We believe" but not from their wallets and pocketbooks.
So Biden can fix this: bring back the Trump protocols. (Never happen.)

The election in Texas may well depend on whether all the incoming Californios have learned their lesson or bring their old politics with them. . Here in Florida the New Yorkers flooding in seem to mostly have left their liberalism up north.
