Michigan's top court ruled on Thursday that voters should get to decide whether to amend their state constitution to protect abortion rights, handing a win to advocates who petitioned to put the measure on the November ballot.
Reproductive Freedom for All, an abortion-rights advocacy group, amassed more than 730,000 signatures in support of putting a state constitutional amendment affirming the right to abortion on the general election ballot.
The group appealed to the Democratic-leaning state Supreme Court last week after the state canvassing board deadlocked over whether to allow the issue to go before voters. The two Republicans on the canvassing board voted against putting the amendment on the ballot, while the two Democrats supported it.
Anti-abortion groups objected to the ballot measure largely on technical grounds, saying the language of the petition contained multiple errors.
Michigan abortion rights advocates began a campaign to put the issue on the 2022 ballot months before the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in June that overturned Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 case that granted nationwide constitutional protection for abortion

i actually think this is better...Dixon is getting killed over the abortion issue,,...she gave an absolutely horrid interview and the Witch made a commercial with it that is playing every 15 minutes here....now with this ruling, hopefully it takes the issue away from being between the candidates....the Kansas vote was the wake up call, whether anybody likes it or not. Rep’s out number dems 3-1 in Kansas and as badly as the issue lost there, it tells me Republicans also voted to keep abortion in the Kansas constitution...politically, its been a disaster...
1st trimester-3 months-2nd trimester, whatever-it is still a human-so why is killing that little human okay at 3 months but suddenly not at 5, 6. 7 months-or 9 for that matter? If that woman is planning on getting an abortion after she knows she is probably pregnant, that is just too bad-the kid has a right to 9 months of her time in utero so he/she can be born-give the kid up for adoption and get a tubal ligation...
Right. They needed 500,000 valid signatures over a certain period. They almost instantly got 700,000 possiblly valid signatures. 500,000 have been certified.

The proposal seeks to amend the Michigan Constitution to affirm that “every person has the fundamental right to reproductive freedom, which involves the right to make and carry out decisions without political interference about all matters relating to pregnancy, including birth control, abortion, prenatal care, and childbirth.”
Specifically, the measure would “ensure that all Michiganders have the right to safe and respectful care during birthing, everyone has the right to use temporary or permanent birth control, everyone has the right to continue or end a pregnancy pre-viability, and no one can be punished for having a miscarriage, stillbirth, or abortion.”
I am in Michigan and the ads against Tudor Dixon for Gov.) used to “a woman’s right to choose.” Then they boldly made it explicit “to choose abortion.” And imply ectopic pregnancy and miscarriage were somehow criminalized by the GOP——NOT TRUE in Michigan or other states. They don’t need a Dem “hero” to save them from that.
Women around here can hardly wait to vote Dem and they wish it were November.
Deep, deep trouble. Including for the innocent babies to be slaughtered by the “choice” of women to abort them.
There is MORALITY. And there is POLITICS. If you screw up the POLITICS, you will get unlimited abortion to birth and beyond because most Americans in most states do NOT support the Zero Abortion option!
The question is, “Do you want SOME restrictions, and the right to argue for narrowing the window further, or will your demands push America into an unlimited abortion position?”
Sorry, but what is moral doesn’t win until you convince a comfortable MAJORITY to enact it. That majority doesn’t exist, and the other side is using this window of opportunity to enshrine abortion rights into Constitutions and Federal law! Once written, it will take another 50 years - or MORE - to undo it!
