White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre received social media scorn Tuesday after she accidentally called Russia’s Nord Stream 1 pipeline “Nordstrom” — as in the department store.
The slip of the tongue came as President Biden’s chief spokeswoman accused Russia of fueling an energy crisis in Europe by shutting down the pipeline, which supplies natural gas to large swathes of the continent.
“What we see Russia is doing, we’ve been very clear about this, they’re using energy, they’re weaponizing energy,” Jean-Pierre told reporters during her regular press briefing.
“One of the things that has been out there … they shut down the pipeline of Nordstrom 1.”

Driving back this weekend from VA in the Delmarva Peninsula, I filled my tank with $3.50/9 gas, and there was a lot of $3.55/9 being sold by the majors. I think they are afraid that if Trump gets in again the price of gas will go so low that barrels of oil might again drop below cost of production. A friend pointed out that briefly, there was such a glut of oil that the price went below ZERO. Oil companies were having to pay people $30 a barrel to get rid of it. So I think their plan is to keep the price high enough to have some profit, and not elect someone who will drive the price ruinously low from THEIR perspective.
