The man accused of kidnapping billionaire heiress Eliza Fletcher was recently released from prison after serving a 20-year sentence for a similar crime.
Cleotha Abston, 38, was arrested and convicted in 2000 for the kidnapping of Memphis attorney Kemper Durand.
At around 2am May 25, 2000, Abston approached Durand from behind on Beale Street in Memphis then robbed him and forced him into the trunk of his car, according to the Memphis Flyer.
Abston then drove Durand around for several hours, then forced him into an ATM and demanded he draw out cash. While in the ATM Durand spotted a housing authority officer and yelled for help, causing Abston to flee.
Abston was convicted for that kidnapping and released from prison in July of 2020, according to Tennessee Department of Corrections, The US Sun reported.
On Sunday Abston was charged with especially aggravated kidnapping and tampering with evidence following Fletcher's Friday disappearance.
In addition to surveillance footage which showed the entirety of the 'violent' abduction in which Fletcher was forced into a black SUV with a broken taillight, an affidavit showed cops identified Abston as the kidnapper by a pair of sandals he left behind at the scene. *** Investigators also determined Abston's cell was in the vicinity of the kidnapping at the time Fletcher was taken. *** Abston still has not said where Fletcher is or what he did to her. The affidavit said evidence, including blood, found in Abston's car led them to believe Fletcher suffered a 'serious injury.'

Someone upthread who is local says she’s know to be anorexic. Which means she has a very bad self-image. That overdone smile is probably a compensation attempt. Some who suffer from this malady hear voices that tell them they are ugly and no good and they should kill themselves. It’s a very unpleasant condition.
“:Someone upthread who is local says she’s know to be anorexic.”
A thread from a day ago or more had post that she had “drug issues” and would go out in early in morning to run instead of doing drugs. Running instead of shooting up makes sense. Except this time
Not necessarily in that order.
Oh yes. Violated her with an ear of corn, savagely murdered her, and parents were worried it might reflect poorly on illegals.
Unrealistic expectations of safety combined with
Young girls raised on Hollywood fantasy movies

Without the self discipline to manage their emotions

Get rid of the rest of them while they are still in prison, no sense in this happening. Entirely preventable
Sadly so. Some people are sick
> I did carry spray, but I’ve never been super confident about spray. <
Consider Sabre and Fox brands. They are available on Amazon. Avoid the junk they sell at supermarket check-out lines. There are good videos on YouTube showing how to use the stuff.
As a side note, I think good quality pepper spray is as important as a firearm. There are times when using a gun could be an over-reaction. Pepper spray is a good alternative at those times.
.
No supermarket junk for sure! I currently don’t have any, but I think the last I got was at Cabela’s. I’m not walking/hiking, but even supermarket parking lots are dangerous these days.
When I carried spray, I practiced ‘drawing’ and ‘arming’ ie getting the safety off quickly & reliably, ready to go. When walking, I had it in my hand. When hiking, I had it on my belt in a holder, right side and easily accessible. I’ve only had to ‘draw/arm’ once, but fortunately, didn’t have to use it.
Number 3 is Springfield, MO . The home of Bass Pro. The heart of the Bible Belt.
The lesson is clear.
Always
Be
Carrying.
Springfield was a pretty nice place forty years ago.
Then the feds started to give ferals more benefits to move there so they could overwhelm the conservatives with Demonocrats.
It’s how it’s done.
This lean and fit woman may fought back after being grabbed up. The lawyer that this criminal kidnapped in a similar way did not resist or fight back, in part because the rhug had a gun, in part because he had taken some sort of ‘urban survival’ training that taught passivity and cooperation with a kidnapper until the perp relaxed his guard and then to run like the devil. In reality he was lucky and recognized before this thug just killed him.The lady may have become violently, hysterically resistant and was then killed.
But the statue of Nathan Bedford Forrest has been removed, how can these conditions still prevail?
Are these legal in California?
The ones responsible for his release from prison should go to prison themselves. They are who is responsible for her murder. He was only the instrument used. This happens in all 50 States. This is one more reason a life sentence does not mean shit. Very ,very, very few criminals sentenced to life sentences actually die in prison in spite of what Defense Lawyers tell Jurors. And those die from cancer, heart attacks, or getting shanked. Not old age.
Agree.
I ran a couple of times at 5 in the morning when it was still dark to get my run in before work. It gave me the creeps and didn’t do it again.
Lousy article, but if you can wade through it the lawyer (from 2000) got away.
I guess on the plus side, this killer was able to go two years after getting paroled before doing the same thing again. (Or went two years of not getting caught.)
20 years for kidnapping and robbery seems light. I imagine if he had the chance he would have killed his earlier victim after draining out the ATM machines.
Understood. Be safe.
