The man accused of kidnapping billionaire heiress Eliza Fletcher was recently released from prison after serving a 20-year sentence for a similar crime.
Cleotha Abston, 38, was arrested and convicted in 2000 for the kidnapping of Memphis attorney Kemper Durand.
At around 2am May 25, 2000, Abston approached Durand from behind on Beale Street in Memphis then robbed him and forced him into the trunk of his car, according to the Memphis Flyer.
Abston then drove Durand around for several hours, then forced him into an ATM and demanded he draw out cash. While in the ATM Durand spotted a housing authority officer and yelled for help, causing Abston to flee.
Abston was convicted for that kidnapping and released from prison in July of 2020, according to Tennessee Department of Corrections, The US Sun reported.
On Sunday Abston was charged with especially aggravated kidnapping and tampering with evidence following Fletcher's Friday disappearance.
In addition to surveillance footage which showed the entirety of the 'violent' abduction in which Fletcher was forced into a black SUV with a broken taillight, an affidavit showed cops identified Abston as the kidnapper by a pair of sandals he left behind at the scene. *** Investigators also determined Abston's cell was in the vicinity of the kidnapping at the time Fletcher was taken. *** Abston still has not said where Fletcher is or what he did to her. The affidavit said evidence, including blood, found in Abston's car led them to believe Fletcher suffered a 'serious injury.'

That’s how they figured out where the Vallow kids were - the brother’s cell phone was pinging around the property of the guy Lori married (2 weeks after his wife died suddenly/unexpectedly).
The perp doesn’t look too bright to me. I don’t think he had a lot of time to dispose of the body, so he probably just dumped her somewhere & she will turn up eventually. If he managed to bury her, that could take a while, but it should be a shallow grave. People find out the hard way that trying to dig a deep one by hand is a lot of work & time consuming. Also, don’t know if there is water nearby, but dumping her in a river might be something he would do.
Anyway, I feel bad for her family & also for her ... how terrified she must have been and to be seeing that ugly mug in your last minutes ... hard to think about.
I’ve been noticing the same thing where I live. Areas that I deemed as fairly safe don’t seem so safe now. The area where my daughter has ballet class is even a little sketchy now.
I can tell you twenty years ago, I went to that same shopping center for lunch and I never gave my safety a second thought. Now my head is on a swivel when I go there.
I was even approached by two punks thinking I was looking to sell or buy drugs last year. They didn’t take no for an answer until I made it clear they better back off.
I have an inquiring mind. Is there any common denominator in these meteoric rises in urban murders?
Knew a black physical therapist from Memphis. He relocated his family to Nashville after he was carjacked for the second time. The second time, his daughter was in the back seat, and he had to beg to retrieve her.

Actually, there are no such thing as dumb questions, just dumb people.
Do you know what a link is?
Click on it instead of playing stupid.
5-6 years ago, I was walking a couple of miles around some neighborhood streets near my house before dawn. These are large, wooded lots, no street lights, pretty “secluded” in a way, especially at 5:30 in the morning. I was hiking that early because it was the coolest time of the day & to avoid some ladies & their (uncontrolled) dogs that were a real pain if I ran into them on a street I had to take to get back home.
True confessions ... I was nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs until the sun came up to the point I didn’t need a flashlight. No one would have heard me if I’d run into someone ‘bad’ on those streets. Anyone could have driven up and tried or actually pulled off an abduction. Or, I could have been dragged into the woods (plenty of those in that area). Just DUMB. I finally realized that walking around the subdivision for a couple of miles a day was not like hiking 20-30 miles in the mountains/weekend and gave it up. I was actually relieved when I decided not to do that any more. No earbuds ... have never used them. I did carry spray, but I’ve never been super confident about spray. At the time, I had not yet acquired my revolver - if I’d had it, I would have carried it (small, 2” barrel so it will carry concealed).
Can’t! In 80’s, family here, great cardiologist, hospitals, etc. 66 yrs married, same house 49 years.
Just have to weather it out. Won’t be too much longer.
Everyone mentions it. It’s not even a smile, but it says something is very wrong with her. And is quite disturbing.
I don’t think this is as rural an area.
They have the cell phone pings.
they should find her with good dogs and watching the sky for crows. Took a week here to find a jogger who hanged herself in the rural woods.
Crows.
It is often the husband...a reasonable place to begin in many cases.
Unfortunately, she ran into the feral animal and it cost her, her life.
That works well.
Death penalty must stay one the table.
We need to expurgate this vermin.
Re: Why would you need more than one thread?
Often other threads have updated or corrected information including full perpetrator information. Not always.
I didn’t know to try to search for heiress instead of abducted jogging woman or felon was released for earlier conviction for abduction or Cleotha Abston.
Plus important crime stories (my favorites) are sometimes 15 -25 threads down. I wish I could search better. Usually nothing comes up.
Sorry for being a dolt.
RE: risk of going out in urban zone.
Having grown up in a suburb outside of Detroit, everyone thought the term “situational awareness” simply meant “Oh, you mean being in Detroit.”
A war on White People, encouraged by this regime and it’s msm mouthpieces.
Sounds like Memphis needs to be cleaned out by Marines the same way we cleaned our Fallujah. Block by block, house by house. Put 50 other ‘American’ cities on the list too.
It’s ok. Happens to us all
