A North Carolina high school student was killed and another wounded in a knife attack Thursday morning, officials said.
A “physical altercation” broke out at Northside High School in Jacksonville just after 7 a.m. that ended with two kids slashed or stabbed — and one teacher with minor injuries, cops said at a news conference.
A student was arrested in the incident, but police haven’t disclosed charges and are continuing to investigate.
Two student resource officers stationed at the school responded, with the first on the scene within 20 seconds, Jacksonville Public Safety Chief Mike Yaniero told reporters.
The two wounded students were treated at the scene and taken to a nearby naval hospital before one of the two succumbed to their injuries.

Knives or machetes?
In case anyone is curious:
Many city high schools now have metal detectors. The city high school where I taught had one at every door. Still, it was quite easy for a student to get a knife or other contraband into the school.
Method #1: Arrange to meet an outside friend at a fire door during a class change. You open the door, your friend hands you the knife in a lunch bag. You disappear into the crowd.
Method #2: Arrange to meet an outside friend at a lavatory window. You open the window. He tosses you a knife in a lunch bag.
I had a pocket knife on me every day at school from about the 4th grade on. Never cut anybody with it but myself by accident. Times are different now.
Perp probably won’t get any time for assault and murder, but will probably get life for possessing a knife at school. That is just how F’d up our culture and in-justice system has become. . . .

Although some freepers may disagree, I heavily lean toward your position on this critical topic that has been rapidly growing in importance throughout the nation.
I believe banning "assault knives" is something that needs more attention and urgency on the part of the federal government. And I would go one step further than your advice. I'm convinced that ALL knives must be banned ASAP. I expect other freepers may respond in protest: "I don't want the feds telling me I can't spread jelly on my morning toast using my butter knife! DON'T TAKE MY BUTTER KNIFE!"
Well, I do appreciate that sentiment from the pro-butter-knife community but what's more important? Having your butter knife during breakfast or stopping ALL knives from walking the streets and attacking people? Unlike some others, I actually care about people's feelings and diversity, equity, and inclusion, so I know what my answer is: TAKE AWAY THE BUTTER KNIVES! NOW!

Until we have Black 100% (and I emphasize that capital 'B'), I will always assign a diversity score of 0.00! And why does that racist high school even list "white" & "hispanic?!?" It should instead group those together in one lump labeled "non-Black." As a society, we need to be all about feelings!

You’re going to think the following must be satire, but it’s not. There have been many knife attacks in the UK. So now there’s a movement in the UK to ban pointed knives. In other words, all knives must have rounded ends.
