Democrat Mary Peltola won the special election to fill Alaska's House seat for the remainder of 2022, according to unofficial results released by the Alaska Division of Elections, thwarting former Gov. Sarah Palin's bid at a political comeback -- at least for a few months. Peltola emerged as the victor Wednesday when Alaska's Division of Elections tabulated ranked-choice ballots in the state's first use of the system.

“So people who voted for Begich chose the Dem as their second choice? Unbelievable!!”
Begich is a phony Republican. Of course his supporters would support the Democrat next.
“She should move to a better state.”
Texas, Oklahoma.
What a disaster. Is this how they’re running the Pres. election?
If so, then we just lost AK’s electoral votes thanks to Murkowski rigging the vote with this unconstitutional ranked choice BS.
and another point is we have no idea how much fraud there was. Over 2 weeks to “count” aka rig the votes.
Ranked choice voting.
zzzzzzzz you sound like a blowhard
“The poll that nailed the final result on the money showed that head to head, Begich wins in a walk, by about 10 points.”
Nonsense, what you’re saying makes no sense. Nick Begich the third-place loser should have dropped out. He is the one that cost the election. Palin beat him by 5 points. If that idiot would have dropped out when he was losing and had no chance of winning the seat would be Repub.
Hint: Polls don’t win elections, votes do. It is stupid the RINO Republicans that destroy everything. His pride was too big to concede in time to save the seat.
I think whenever they do it like this the dem always ends up winning
She's entirely right.
In the final round there were 177,000 votes counted. 11,000 votes are termed as "exhausted". I am not clear what that means.
Did those 11,000 not have a second choice listed and thus were thrown out?
Or did their second choice not include one of the two finalists?
Either way the Democrats worked the system to their advantage as there was one Democrat against two Republicans. Yes, I know the ranked choice really means 'rigged choice", but having two Republicans makes no sense. Or was the "Republican" really a democrat?
Democrats fight to win, Republicans do not. We need to learn to fight like they do.
I'm tired of losing.
Palin got more votes than Begich in both the primary and special election on the first choice.
So Palin is the stronger Republican candidate.
The Murkowski Crowd system is what hurt Sarah in the Special Election and may hurt her in the general.
Nick Begich is the weaker Republican candidate is what I see in these results.
So Begich and other Republican voters picked the Dem as the second choice...and apparently a lot of Palin voters didn’t pick Begich as the second choice. Combined, they had almost 60% of the vote as a first choice.
Palin’s very low popularity obviously did not make for her being a good candidate.
No. The ranked choice showed his Democrat challenger earning the #2 position.
Palin will lose this race in November against Peltola. Palin is the one who needs to drop out.
Yup! (see Minneapolis)
Why is there ranked choice in Alaska? This isn’t New York or California.
Ranked choice == blue wave...
Given the voting system, this analysis, with all due respect, does not make any sense.
If all of Palin's voters had selected Begich as their second choice, Begich would have won. So it appears a substantial number of both Begich and Palin voters selected the Democrat as their second choice.
Not sure, but my guess is because the Republicans do not stand up for what they should.
Peltola 91,206 votes, 51.5%
Palin 85,987 votes, 48.5%
93% reporting.
