Palin; Peltola; Nick Begich III, a Republican businessman from the state's most famous Democratic political family; and independent Al Gross were the four that advanced. But shortly after the primary, Gross dropped out of the race, a move that consolidated Democratic support behind Peltola.

Two republicans vs one democrat? Not rocket science to predict a winner.

“… Palin lost this, Pelota didn’t win.”

Hmmmm… and Begich neither won nor lost? Funny how that is. Anyhooo, in the Senate race you have your beloved moderate in Murkowski.

THIS is NOT the way to run an election it is totally screwed up!!!

I agree!

But people who are thinking that because Palin came in second, so she should run, aren’t looking at the Begich voters who picked Peltola as their #2. These voters will vote for Peltola over Palin in November.

Yes, ranked voting sucks but right now it’s the Law of the Land in Alaska.

What is the breakdown for Palin voters who placed her first? How many voted for Begich second? No second choice? Or for the Dem?

Not really. The fact Palin lost is newsworthy. She was a VP candidate. Few Have heard of the dem.

Yeah, you are right. I was too quick

To be honest, I am infuriated at the stupidity of these voters.

But I also think Sarah Palin has been so demonized by the Democrats that many of those 11,000 have fallen for it.

And they did this because these voters can't stand Sarah Palin!

I don't know his this forum can be so detached from reality some times.

Another way of explaining the result is that for 15,445 of Begich's voters their second choice was a Democrat instead of another Republican, Palin. So they are people that really aren't solid Republicans, but more like RINO voters.

The only reason Begich looks like he would have had a chance was because Palin's voters seemed more likely to vote Republican, and therefore less of them would have picked a Democrat as their second choice. If Palin's voters did what Begich's did he would have lost in exactly the same way that Palin did.

RINO candidates depend on highly dedicated Republican voters holding their nose and voting for them. When Republicans only vote for candidates they personally like, then RINO candidates will disappear.

That’s something else. It may be the only way such a system can work, but it is clearly weighting some choices of voters to count more than others - I don’t see how this is constitutional.

And as such, Murkowski probably has absolutely nothing to worry about at all. She will win easily in the fall.

Palin’s votes don’t get redistributed, because she was in Second. However, there was one poll that absolutely nailed the final result.

It was taken back in July.

“Nicholas Begich beats Mary Peltola 57-43 in an RCV final pairing on August 16th, with Sarah Palin eliminated first.

The 3-way result is:

Peltola 40
Begich 31
Palin 29

In a “hypothetical” Palin-Peltola final two, Peltola wins 50.7-49.3. Palin’s negative rating? Exactly 60%!”

Given how accurate the poll was, it shows that Begich would have won in a walk if he had managed to get second place. The other way around, Palin lost this.

Those who voted second for Begich did not get to have their votes counted. In total, an overwhelming number may have voted for Begich as first or second, but Palin’s second choice voters did not get to have their votes tabulated.

You can bet that >95% of the voters who picked Palin #1, picked Begich #2.

The problem for Sarah Palin is that there's a greater number of voters who picked Begich #1 and Peltola #2 rather than Begich #1 and Palin #2.

This is what dooms Sarah Palin in November.

When Republicans only vote for candidates they personally like, then RINO candidates will disappear.

And Democrats win in that scenario.

There is a reason that Todd Akin, Christine O'Donnell, Roy Moore, Sharon Angle, and many other examples cost us winnable seats.

Candidate quality matters.

A great number of Alaskans are dependent upon government handouts. That's why Murkowski keeps winning. She brings home the $$$.

Ranked choice voting is doing exactly what it is designed to do — make sure democrats are elected in republican districts and if a Republican is elected, make sure it is not the MAGA candidate.

A real election gives you one choice, one vote.

This system is not an election.
