Anyone can say what they will, but Gorby gave Russians a small taste of freedom, and eastern Europe, a bigger one.
He was a good man overall.
RIP.

It looks nothing like him and it probably isn’t him.
Wasnt he supposed to be assigned to East Germany in those days?

Saying he ended the cold war is like hitler saying he ended ww2.
He lost.
To: jroehl
Darn, and people here thought he would take over since Putin is near death we’re told.

“Reagan and Thatcher ended it...Gorby had little choice in the matter...”
I’d like to ass Pope John Paul to Reagan and Thatcher for ending the Soviet Union.
Apologies, that was a typo if there ever was one. “Add” was what I was going for.
I’d like to ADD Pope John Paul to Reagan Thatcher for ending the Soviet Union.

I liked him from what I saw. He seemed to be a bit more reasonable than some of the other Russian/Soviet leaders.
He made it to 92 which is pretty good.

I watched it. If to be believed he was a changed man. On that played the game to get to the top and then executed his principles. He and Regan at the same time as Thatcher pulled us away from the brink. All three were people of destiny.
We all go sometime. He lived a very full life.

Gorbachev did his part to deliver the Russian people. He was one of the better ones.

The stars definitely aligned in the 80s: We had Reagan, Thatcher, Kohl, JPII. The only downer was Mitterrand in France.

This was the man of whom Margaret Thatcher said to Ronald Reagan...”I think we can work with this man”
To: Churchillspirit
LOL, mainly because Gorby wasn’t about to croak, like his three predecessors.

Umm, the Cold War ended without bloodshed because he failed to prevent the collapse of the Soviet Union.
