Rents across the United States have hit a record high, with the median rent for a one-bedroom apartment now reaching nearly $1,500 a month, according to the Zumper National Rent Index.
The sky-high rents are up almost 12 percent compared to the same time last year, the analysis finds. The jump in rents now beats out last year’s record rents.

Thank you for ensuring this grazer was not too da*# disappointed!
Ha! Yes, you’re right. Perhaps I should have said “you gain by not having to pay additional taxes and for unexpected repairs”.
I’m kinda old. I’ve rented for many years. And now I have owned for many years. I really think I have broken even overall. I like owning. I’m the boss. If I want to put pink flamingos in my front yard, I can (see below). But when something breaks or if the roof leaks, I know I’m in for a world of aggravation. So yeah, I’ve broken even. I’m okay with that.
Wait until the HOA gets wind of your ‘addition’, to your yard :-)
The Karens will whine (always about something).
Owning is the only way to go IMO.
However, some people prefer mobility and don’t want maintenance responsibilities.
Also age can be a factor, my grandmother(1920-2016) and her twin sister(1920-2013) rented an apartment together at the end of their lives.
They sold off real estate as they outlived their spouses and had a simpler life, without bothering family with home maintenance. It worked for them, they were happy until the end.
Maybe we should get the GOP Amnesty Senators to stop singing the siren song of amnesty...
Do illegal aliens get section 8 housing? I’ve heard some landlords make some good money with Section 8 because the government directly pays those rents. Anyone know if that’s true?
In any case , adding millions of new people to this country who have to live somewhere , all that can do is drive up the cost of housing. Its just based on supply and demand
Rents are climbing because landlords who were burned by illegal eviction moratoriums during the Scamdemic aren’t going to get burned again. They’ve taken hundreds of thousands of units off the market until the laws are rewritten in concrete to prevent that from happening again.
Immigration?
So nobody has the guts to say Invasion?
And THAT is why we continue to lose.
Accept the lefts language, let the left win.
Jane Long is right on this. I bought my first residence at age 30, and have lived rent free for 52 years, only paying property taxes and minor repairs. I was able to upgrade residences with minimum pain using the profits from selling previous residence.
And doing what, letting them sit empty month after month? How long can they afford to do that?
You are paying for taxes and repairs through your rent. It is built into the rent. The landlord’s profit is too.
Owning is better because you can live in the place or rent it out to make money.
I understand that owning may not be possible for a number of reasons.
A landlord stupid enough to not roll taxes and repairs into the rent is a landlord who won't be in the landlord business for very long.
Once again, people who can pay are forced to make up for those who won't.
