Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said on Friday that his military's SU-24 warplanes had been modified to carry nuclear weapons and that Minsk would react immediately if the West caused it any problems.
-snip-
"They (the West) must understand that if they opt for escalation no helicopters or planes will save them," Lukashenko was quoted as saying.
"Everything was ready," he said, referring to the work to modify Belarusian warplanes to carry nuclear weapons.
"It's not a good idea to escalate things with Belarus because that would be an escalation with the Union State (of Russia and Belarus) which has nuclear weapons. If they start to create problems ... the response will be immediate."

You’re country has now been ‘modified’ to RECEIVE THEM.......................
They should worry about Ukraine. Unfinished business.
At this point I am expecting a nuclear exchange before the year is out. Might be Eastern Europe, might be Israel/Iran. But I think someone is going to push that button.
Is this an unprovoked declaration? Who has threatened Belarus? If it were for the russian invasion of Ukraine, most would not even know where to find it on a map.
Lukashenko’s political position is somewhat tenuous. The war is deeply unpopular with the Belarusian people. Yes, I know he’s a dictator. But even dictators get removed, ref: Ceaucescu.

Yeah but no more mean tweets.
Agreed re: nukes used before year’s end. It’s scarcely mentioned in the U.S. mainstream media, but the entire civilized world is dropping hints and exchanging threats and prepping for war.
You are a nothing country and bluster is your only weapon...
Probably fjb will while reaching for a pudding pop and not remembering that pudding pops don’t have buttons. Just our luck.
They can't do that. The "climate change" activists will destroy them.
This Ukraine war has shown that the conventional Russian military is not the juggernaut that the world once feared and respected. Comrade Xi and the Chinese generals that covet Siberia and Russia’s rich underpopulated Asian territories are smiling. Russia would be much smaller without nuclear weapons.
In February I suggested people read Herman Kahn’s book, On Escalation. This comes as no surprise. If you have been actually paying attention you know we have climbed about three quarters way up the ladder since March 1. The rate of ascent steadily increases.
“In this widely discussed and influential book, Herman Kahn probes the dynamics of escalation and demonstrates how the intensification of conflict can be depicted by means of a definite escalation ladder, ascent of which brings opponents closer to all-out war. At each rung of the ladder, before the climb proceeds, decisions must be made based on numerous choices. Some are clear and obvious, others obscure, but the options are always there.
Thermonuclear annihilation, says Kahn, is unlikely to come through accident; but nations may elect to climb the ladder to extinction. The basic material for the book was developed in briefings delivered by Kahn to military and civilian experts and revised in the light of his findings of a trip to Vietnam in the 1960s. In On Escalation he states the facts squarely. He asks the reader to face unemotionally the terrors of a world fully capable of suicide and to consider carefully the alternatives to such a path.
In the never-never land of nuclear warfare, where nuclear incredulity is pervasive and paralyzing to the imagination even for the professional analyst, salient details of possible scenarios for the outbreak of war, and even more for war fighting, are largely unexplored or even unnoticed. For scenarios in which war is terminated, the issues and possibilities of which are almost completely unstudied, the situation is even worse. Kahn’s discussion throws light on the terrain and gives the individual a sense of the range of possibilities and complexities involved and are useful.”
Without nukes, Russia would be nothing now.
"Hey! We are important too. We are relevant and dangerous. We roar like a tiger. Look at us! Make us a target of war."
I don't get it either.
If history does repeat itself, this is WWI all over again.
Does Putin really trust him that much? Or would this be Russian planes launched from Belarus?
That guy...he’s like the incompetent henchman from a Bond movie.
