On Wednesday, President Joe Biden announced his administration would cancel $10,000 in student debt for many borrowers, while extending a pause on monthly loan payments through the end of the year.
For students and young people in Pittsburgh, it should have been a cause for celebration; but just hours after the announcement, reactions skewed negative as left-leaning activists argued the president should have honored his campaign commitment to cancel all student debt. Meanwhile, Republicans chided Mr. Biden for what they see as the president bowing to the progressive movement.
“In my opinion, it’s not enough,” said Allie Holler, a University of Pittsburgh graduate student with around $80,000 in loans. “I hate to be one of the people saying that, because it looks like a lot of people are happy about this plan. But I just feel like more could have been done, and $10K was the bare minimum.”
According to a fact sheet issued by the White House on Wednesday, the $10,000 in federal loan cancellation applies to those making under $125,000 per year — a move that would benefit 43 million borrowers who hold a large share of the country’s $1.7 trillion dollars in student debt.
Two-thirds of these borrowers are under 40, the White House said, with most debt cancellation going toward people making under $75,000 per year.
In addition, the administration intends to offer $20,000 in debt relief for Pell Grant recipients, who come from some of the lowest-income brackets and must pay back the grant if they don’t complete their degree.

“That’s the plan! It’s a bribe. Vote for us in 2022 because we may just cancel all of your remaining school loans if you vote for us in 2024. Get out the base!“
Yep!
Parents are not on the hook for federal student loans except for this’d dumb enough to take out parent plus loans.
First of all, it’s not even legal. I knew it wouldn’t be long before the entitled brats started started crying, more. More, more...
Well...that didn’t take long.
The students and young people in Pittsburgh are a product of a dysfunctional education system controlled by the NEA. Otherwise they would a little economics. The bastions of education hike their tuition rates up to levels as much as the market will bear. These education loans make it easier for them to gouge the public even more. And they do as we notice the curve going up each year.
By forgiving these loans at a mere $10,000 allows these institutions to hike their tuitions even more. At a time when America is fighting inflation, the billions of tuition forgiveness feeds the inflation like gas on the fire. If these students and young people in Pittsburgh can’t figure that out, they can all go to hell.

you cannot appease the left, the left is never satisfied...
Cause the schools are hedge funds as others have said.
Your exactly right. All student loans where to be forgiven. That was the promise.
$10,000 is a slap in the face for those that voted for Biden.
This is a Big loss for their side and they know it.
Story posted a coup before this about 2 dumb broads jumping up, and down about the $10,000 is total propaganda, and nobody on that side is buying it.
“Promises made. Promises Not kept” 😂
We’re on the same page. The rat base is stupid and gullible but they’re not THAT stupid and gullible
Gen-z will resort to cannibalism over this. Good.
What happens in 10 or 15 years when the next generation wants their handout from uncle sugar?
Exactly! Other than terminology, we’re on the same page.
People keep screaming for stuff like this, because they
know the Communists will give it to them.
I may have a solution to this problem.
If their loan is forgiven, they have to sign off on ever
using the degree they received using those loans. If they
do, then the loans are unforgiven, and they have to pay
every cent off, plus a penalty.
I don’t give a damn about these kids. I’m just waiting for reality to smack them upside the head good and hard.
They think ANTIFA and BLM protesting is so fun, but paying a loan is too hard.
These kids are the future of the Nation, and I DO ‘give a damn’ about them. I hope that something does ‘smack’ them - hopefully superior education.
Parenting and education are the most important things that we need to fix in this country.
