A test has found that it costs over $100 to fully charge the battery of an electric pickup truck, far more than it would cost to fill up the gas tank of a large gas-powered truck of similar quality.
In 2010, General Motors stopped manufacturing Hummers, a brand of pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles (SUVs) that were massively criticized for being massive gas-guzzlers. In late 2020, GMC, a division of General Motors, came out with the new GMC Hummer EV, a line of electric battery-powered pickup trucks and SUVs. When news broke out that General Motors was once again manufacturing Hummers, the vehicle’s popularity made pre-orders of its electric successor sell out within just 10 minutes of the announcement. However, a test conducted by the automobile publication Car and Driver has proven that the new Hummer EV is far more costly to drive than a regular gas-powered car.
“GM is marketing the Hummer in this EV world as the ‘Hummer of the Future,’” wrote Peter Corn for MotorBiscuit. “While it may be more environmentally friendly – depending on where the electricity comes from – it actually doesn’t appear very cost- or time-effective.”

My gas tank is more. 😠
Just plug your hummer into a windmill, and blow real hard. EZ
Yea...I spent $188 the other day...thanks to the Pervert and his WEF buddies.
The higher fuel prices are working their wsay through to the cost of electricity.
The idea that “high fuel prices will drive people to electric cars” is foolish. Electric plants use fuel to make electricity.
I don’t remember the Biden Administration saying it was going to be cheaper, just that we wouldn’t have to pay the high gas prices any longer
why the big push for evs?
when most of the evs are powered by electricity generated by conventional fuels?
they want the gas powered cars banned before they “transition” electricity to green energy when electricity prices will skyrocket
It takes $175 to fill my 2500Hd Silverado and about $100 to fill my CTS-V Caddy, but I can fully recharge the fuel cell in about 5 minutes and then go 300 miles plus before needing to recharge.
they promise the jetsons
we get the flintstones
Had a girl offer me an electric hummer once....
For free right? 😂✌
Yes, but you can go twice as far.
Electric vehicle will causing nothing but chaos...An epic boondoggle. But the will keep you on a short leash...
In 20 years, it will take 7 hours of waiting in massive lines to charge your electric appliance at Costco..At Costco it’s bad now with gas vehicles and only takes them a couple minutes to fill up.
While my 2008 Hummer H3 does cost over $100 to fill the tank, it gets 250-275 miles for that fill-up. I’d love to have an electric version but 100 miles for over $100 is simply not practical. 100 miles! Many places I go are over 100 miles on pavement BEFORE I get to the off-road driving.
Anyone who can afford an electric Hummer isn’t going o worry about the cost of a charge or tank of gas.
To them, the single biggest factor beyond virtue signaling is time.
How long to charge versus how long to fill the tank?
The recharge will take far longer.
You are very astute! Don’t want to make Mother Earth angry, do we?

If you want to fill my truck you’d better bring over $130. Otoh for that price I can go over 635 miles. How far did the EV Hummer get for 100 bucks?
A whopping 300 IIRC.
The mighty power of Schadenfreude surges through my body.
Did you get a charge out of it?
