Branding—Army Style!

Soldiers of the 1st Infantry Division Commanding General’s Mounted Color Guard branded pieces of leather with the official U.S. brand at the unit's 2nd Annual Branding Party at the CGMCG Stables at Fort Riley, KS, on August 16th, 2022. 1ID Soldiers and their families had the opportunity to brand their own leather as a keepsake to hold a piece of history. The United States Army has used the brand in their calvary units since 1853. (U.S. Army photo by Staff Sgt. Keegan Costello, 19th Public Affairs Detachment)

Duck Nesting!!

Common goldeneye duck eggs rest in a nest box placed on a tree by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at the Chena River Lakes Flood Control Project in North Pole, Alaska. Working with park rangers at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Alaska District, field researchers track the birds’ use of the boxes to study duck nesting ecology. The data is analyzed by scientists to better understand environmental impacts on the species in its northern-most breeding habitat. (U.S. Army photo)

Oddly enough, these Oxalis does survive outdoors in winter, but maybe because where we have it shelters it from the worst of winter cold. We’ve had these 3 plants for about 5-6 years. They just keep on coming back. I love them

I want a few more....maybe in pots. My mum has died. I have no idea why. It was doing great through the worst of the heat and then it just started drying up. Not from lack of water. I kind of wonder if something has eaten its roots.

I’m glad your hubby will keep the lawn looking nice. it makes a difference. I was so depressed earlier this year because I thought the grass was never going to green up. From lack of rain.

Ya know? I’m just ready for this year to be gone! LOL!

Now I’ll finish up this show and head out. Have a great time at the museum. If you get pictures of anything interesting, be sure to ping me to them. See ya Saturday!

Our winters are longer and colder than yours are. Some plants can handle a little cold but not prolonged. They can stay in the ground year-round farther south but we’d have to dig them up and keep them inside during winter. Up here, olaxis are houseplants rather than garden plants. I have five pots of them - three purple and two green.

I can’t say the yard is kept nice all the time. It’s pretty shaggy most of the time due to those seed stems. But we don’t care since we’re the only ones who see the yard. LOL
We’re just happy it’s green again because that ugly brown was depressing. We get enough of ugly brown during winter.

There hasn’t been much in the way of new stuff brought in to the museum lately but I always take the camera just in case. Maybe there’ll be something this weekend. I just hope we’re busy. It’s been a slow year there so far.

Catch ya Saturday.

The new brakes and gear-shift lever make Blue feel like a brand-now bike!

Tippy has no use for Blue, but is happy to stay home and play with her dozens of squeaky toys when I go for a ride.

Aren't our troops the BEST?
And they do it all for US!
