Republican Joe Sempolinski has been heralded as the projected winner in the special election for New York’s 23rd congressional district.
With 97 percent reporting as of this writing, Sempolinski currently leads Democrat Max Della Pia by nearly 5,000 votes — 53.2 percent versus 46.7 percent. Though the district has been deemed a solid red one, election watcher Dave Wasserman said that the final margins will determine if the Republican Party had made gains or losses in the district.

Solid red to a marginal GOP victory.
Good try. 6.5% is a blow out.
We are so doomed. We are winning instead of winning winning. Oh noes!!!!
Solid red to a marginal GOP victory.

A 6+% win in an off-cycle election is solid.
52-46 is a solid win in any world.
Here’s a question...
When Massa resigned, the district when without a Critter for months because Paterson refused to call a prompt special election. The disyrict missed scores if votes in the House, including the one on Obamacare.
So why call a special this time?
Inquiring minds want to know.
Also, someone might want to check to see if polling locations around Upstate NY are being moved to places that make voting in person far less easy, convenient, comfortable. And more time consuming.
As an inducement to get more voters to use mail-in.
Just curious.
A special election at the end of August to fill a seat for a few months. Why is anyone surprised about low turnout?
Did we just pick up a seat in congress?
Not technically.
But you can bet Deep State will be happy with whomever gets in.
No. We just held serve. Same thing with NY-19. A Dem replaced another Dem.
Trump won this by 11. So far in four specials, GOP % is below 2020.
Not dooming, just pointing this out. A special three months before a general is likely to result in VERY low turnout, as Dave Wasserman points out.
Never mind the fact Republican turnout throughout NY state was absolutely abysmal last night.

Hmm anyone know why?

my first take would be: because the MSM is telling us it is “absolutely abysmal”?
It’s late August in NY. Pretty much everyone is on vacation, or if not on vacation, just coasting until Labor Day when things pick back up again.
New York’s 23rd congressional district borders Pennsylvania where fracking is allowed. The residents of the 23rd district want fracking. They will continue to deny Democrats a victory as long as they vote against fracking in New York. The results of this particular election should not surprise anyone.
Code speak for "we haven't figured out just yet whether Democrats will be able to pull off a 3AM vote-steal."
It really boils down to whether the Democrat Party felt whether that particular district was worth the trouble to steal given all the current Democrat efforts to thwart Trump's probably run.
