Who wants to be an Internal Revenue Service enforcement agent? Turns out, hardly anyone.
President Biden’s plan to boost government revenue over the next decade by adding 87,000 IRS agents is on a collision course with the hard reality that they can’t even recruit enough workers now to meet existing staff levels, according to recent studies.
That could seriously imperil Mr. Biden’s goal of using the IRS to generate $124 billion more in government revenue through 2031 to pay for portions of the $740 billion climate, tax, and health care bill he signed into law last week.

The shoe drops.
Biden mr 47% approval. 81 million votes. He cannot get Americans to sign up for his little SS- er IRS
They have to worry out being not only ostracized, but also doxxed, stalked and victimized by identity theft and false reporting. These people had better keep a loaded gun at their bed stand and pick up and drop off their kids to school.
FBI agents should be doing the same.
Yeah and it’s not just the wages, there’s cadillac health insurance, all major/minor/faux holidays off and a pension.
I’m not buying it either.
This whole thing is getting some serious discussion in the CPA profession. Probably not enough, but it has certainly raised some eyebrows. And hopefully been the “red pill” about Democrats for some.
It’d be nice that the stigma of working for the hated IRS would be a deterrent, but eventually they’ll find the filth they need to fill their ranks.
The new IRS recruits are arriving right now, crossing the border.
Yep, tyrants never lack for enough jack booted thugs.
Math is hard and most wokesters avoid it like the plague. The IRS needs smart people that can do higher level math, like it, can use it, know acconting principles and thus probably can’t find anyone.
Next step, get the non-English speaking leeches (currently begging for free stuff on street corners), to do the job.
My brother works there and believe me the job sucks. In the end no one really likes to work for people who have no idea what they are doing. and tell you how to do stuff.
They can always draft felons in prison to process your tax returns...
Many years ago my spouse lost his job thru layoffs. He was willing to work for the irs mainly for medical benefits at a greatly reduced salary. He was very qualified. They asked him to take an on line interactive test. He scored a 98. They never called him. We are white.
BIPOC’s don’t normally excel at math. The IRS is going to have recruiting issues.
Most of the new hires were transfers from the IRS. They hated it worse than I hated the DCAA. Bad management, slow/no promotion path, etc.
The IRS will not be hiring for competence, they'll be hiring for diversity, and we know how that will turn out.
Both agencies, like most federal agencies, only want workers who will do exactly what their supervisors want them to do, without exception. Intelligence and imagination are two of the least approved traits.
They did their best to fire me, but I filed an EEOC complaint against them, then I retired.
When it comes to defense audits, there is only one group worth a damn: Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR). They ran circles around DCAA, which had auditors there for years.
LOL, I remember being assigned an audit by my supervisor, little did she know that SIGAR took over that audit six months prior to that. I paid the price for pointing out her miscue.
To say nothing of that whole showing up for work hassle
They don’t need new CPAs - just people who can pass the marksmanship test.
Yeah, but I’ll bet the DCAA didn’t let you pack heat.
That’s a recruiting video. Nothing more.
Studies by the US Dept of Labor have shown that for years, the number of people that are willing and qualified to go into:
Law enforcement, fire services, emt, the trades, truck driving
Has been declining at a rate of about 5% a year, every year, for almost a decade. It has been designated a National security issue.
And these same problems are across the board.
Woke, young kids are more concerned about TikTok and Snapchat
