Toyota Exec Says Lack Of Consumer Demand Makes U.S. Goal Of 50% Electric Vehicles By 2030 A Long Shot

It’s unlikely mass adoption of Battery Electric Vehicles will develop as fast as environmentalists, the U.S. government, and most of the U.S. auto industry seem to expect.

That’s because, fundamentally, consumer demand just isn’t sufficient, says Jack Hollis, executive vice president of sales at Toyota Motor North America.

In turn, consumer demand isn’t sufficient because on average, BEVs cost too much, and because the infrastructure isn’t ready, like for recharging batteries away from home, Hollis said, in a recent webinar hosted by the Detroit-based Automotive Press Association.

“I don’t think the market is ready. I don’t think the infrastructure is ready. And even if you were ready to purchase one, and if you could afford it … they’re still too high,” Hollis says.

According to Kelly Blue Book, sales of BEVs in the first half of 2022 were 370,726, including estimates for some brands, an increase of 75.7% vs. a year ago.

Just wait until they tax the hell out of gasoline, and ICE vehicles, and won’t allow you to take out a loan to buy an ICE car.

They’ll try

Do we choose pipelines, fracking and oil independence for the US? Too bad, the Commie Dems don’t.

What if 50% of gas stations are shut down by actions indirectly or directly by the Dems?

What if price per gallon including new taxes goes way up? Regulations on auto makers who haven’t already knelt and kissed the rear ends of the Dems as Ford and Chrysler recently did.

And tax increase for gas car drivers and more stipends of EV drivers, as they already have done since the early Prius owners.

“Most Japanese and Korean companies don’t have to deal with that issue.

Honda and Toyota have multiple factories in the US that are not union, so they don’t have to deal with that crap one way or the other.

Both of my Honda autos were made in the US (also my lawn mower, snow blower and weed-whacker).

With the increase in interest rates PLUS the markup on vehicles NO ONE right now will be looking to purchase new vehicles they just can NOT afford it!! Groceries are completely out of control, I live on a golf course I buy oats to feed the ducks and geese, 2 weeks ago the container went up 60 cents went to buy some yesterday and they had gone up ANOTHER 40 cents so that is $1.00 increase in just 3 weeks!! I usually purchase 6 containers at a time so that is a $6.00 increase just for oats, eggs, meats and cat food have doubled!! These idiots honestly believe people can get under a car payment for a $60,000 dollar car they are INSANE!! THEN they are out there talking about saving 30% on solar panels and new windows OMG clueless!!!

Really? They are on the verge of completing their overthrow of the West without a military or most even knowing it

NIO makes an EV that can go up to 600 miles on a charge and the “charge” takes only 5 minutes. That’s because the battery is changed or swapped robotically at a change station.

“Lack of consumer demand” means the damn things are too expensive, don’t go far on a charge, take a half hour at minimum to charge, and need battery replacements that cost as much as a gas-powered car.

Will the government criminalize the gas-powered car and tax us to pay for the “poor” peoples’ cars?

“...I can fill my gas SUV in in 5 minutes at the local gas station, but need a app to find the nearest charger, hope you don’t have to wait hours in line to get a spot, then 30-60 minutes for a charge....”

I agree. What about RV’s?

My V-10 E-450 based 26’ RV sleeps five and gets 400 miles between fill-ups.

It stays at campgrounds without electrical hook-ups on occasion and has been very busy this summer as a rental hitting YNP and Grand Teton park at least four times each as well as a trip to Glacier National Park (yess, the glaciers have not melted Obama). Currently (NOT a pun) it’s in Wyoming on a fishing expedition.

If the ICE engine is discontinued then the RV is dead as well...

Here’s a few scenarios the EV aficionados haven’t thought of to address, just for starters. How to take the family camping in an EV. How to drive your kids’ baseball or soccer team for ice cream after the game in an EV. How to move your belongings to a new home in another town in an EV. How to haul your recreational “toys” to the desert or mountains in an EV.

In addition I have myriad questions about how they plan to provide the electricity to run these “electricity guzzlers” or the subsidies that will be needed by the middle and lower classes to pay for them.

There’s a place for EVs in our society for those that have the means and desire to acquire one. However, we’re not being allowed that choice, which is alarming to me and makes me wonder what TPTB are planning for us in the next 8 years. 🤬

My diesel,a mid sized sedan,is quite nice.Well equipped, comfortable, all the latest gadgets (or at least most of them). It's particularly well suited for the Interstate. On two different occasions I've gotten 800 miles...Interstate miles...on a tankful.

Never, ever, ever would I settle for a vehicle that gets 300 miles (if the wind's at my back) on a "tankful" and then be forced to wait 2+ hours for it to be filled again...if I can find a charging station.

Never.

Little kids working in the open pit cobalt mines in the Congo are counting on our electric car business. Don’t let them down!

They’ll need money for medical care when their backs go out prematurely from being overworked.

State and federal gov’t will mandate you buy one; all gas and diesel fuels will be closed off.

I was just in Korea in July. Their EVs have special license plates and they're easy to spot. I was amazed how many of them I saw on the roads. My girlfriend (a Korean American) said it's because electricity is really cheap there.

The goal of overselling EV’s is not to replace gas vehicles; the goal is to force us peons into a backward, dependent state of using horses, bicycles or walking. It's part of the elitist power grab. There is simply no way ev’s can replace gas vehicles-ever.

To be more than a city vehicle an EV needs to have an “honest” 350 mile range with, lights, AC and wipers on. And it need to be rechargeable in under 20 minutes.

Or it needs to be able to draw power through the road.

And I am an EV fan.
