A 31-year-old man was making dinner Monday evening when he suddenly grabbed a knife and stabbed four people inside a York County home, killing his girlfriend and a child, Pennsylvania State Police said.

Keith Kretzer, of Edgewood, Maryland, is being held in York County Prison on two counts of homicide and two counts of attempted homicide in connection to the quadruple stabbing on the first block of Firebox Court in Hopewell Township. He was arraigned Tuesday morning.

An affidavit of probable cause filed by state police said this is what happened:

Kretzer was in the basement with his girlfriend Christine Fousek, 34, and a 5-year-old girl around 7:19 p.m. when he “believed that something took control of him and made him grab a knife,” state police said in the court documents.

He killed Fousek and the girl by stabbing them in the head, neck and torso, according to the affidavit. The York County Coroner’s Office pronounced them dead at the scene less than an hour later.

The affidavit said Kretzer also stabbed a 63-year-old woman in the home’s living room. She was taken to the hospital with severe injuries.

A 28-year-old man was in a second-floor bedroom playing video games when he heard screaming and saw Kretzer burst into the room, knife in hand. The affidavit said the 28-year-old forced the knife out of Kretzer’s hand, and a struggle ensued.

The 28-year-old survived and was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries, state police said. Authorities said the four victims are all Stewartstown residents.

Kretzer told investigators he “snapped out of it” while he was fighting the 28-year-old man, the affidavit said. He ran out of the home and toward a large field.

“I [expletive] up and went and killed people,” Kretzer said, according to the affidavit.

State police said investigators found marijuana, marijuana paraphernalia and psychedelic mushrooms in the home after the attacks.

In all seriousness...this case demonstrates that it is NOT guns, but violence, mental illness, and drug abuse which are the REAL problems.

It is not popular to say this but marijuana and other psychedelic drugs can cause psychosis and other severely abnormal behavior in people with known or unknown mental illness.

This does NOT mean all users of hippie lettuce are going to kill someone or do some other bizarre behavior so take a deep breath if what I wrote upset you, but people need to understand the phenomenon and risks associated with using this stuff.

The research is pretty clear and more emerges each month.

I knew a guy in the early 2000s, a retired dentist, who had killed his wife and mother-in-law in their shared home with a knife in the early ‘70s. Chased them around the house and stabbed them to death. I guess he’d had enough.

He pled insanity and got off scott free after some short time (months) in a nuthouse. He had money and a good lawyer.

I knew him through a church org. He was rail thin and a little uptight but otherwise he was perfectly rational. He did have a temper underneath but didn’t show it much.

I always got the impression that he was like a boiler that had blown its top at one point but was still in use. Wound a little tight.

I’m betting the women hen pecked him one to many times.

People who have a high genetic potential for, say, alcoholism, often don’t know about it until they have their first drink. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard or read something like, “I had my first drink. I finished the bottle and woke up sick. I did the same thing the next night and the next night.”

There’s something worse about pot. I had a friend from college come visit me in my first apartment. His intention was to stay the weekend. We attended a party at the apartment next door, and he tried pot for the first time. It triggered something in him, and he became paranoid. It lasted well into the next day. Many years later he developed severe genetic insanity. That pot reaction was really an indication that he was already on the edge of crazy and nobody knew. I doubt this is a common reaction, but I can see where the super high-powered pot of today might trigger people who are already predisposed to being crazy into slipping over the edge. (Because of his genetics he would have eventually been over the edge as shortly after this incident his mother was Baker acted by the Highway Patrol and spent several years in a clinical/prison setting.)

I knew as soon as I saw the headline that long term marijuana use was probably involved.

Concur. Merely keeping up the Rushbo tradition of illustrating absurdity by being absurd.

Throw the devil weed term in the mix as well.

Marijuana is more of a demotivating substance by itself but cut with the stronger psychedelic stuff can be dangerous. Don’t forget the fentanyl angle too.
