~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Tobyhanna Army Depot, Pennsylvania

PAtobyhannaarmydepot1

Tobyhanna Army Depot (previously known as Tobyhanna Signal Depot), is tasked to provide logistical support for Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C5ISR) Systems for the United States Department of Defense.

The depot was established on February 1, 1953 and is located in Coolbaugh Township, Monroe County, near Tobyhanna, Pennsylvania. As the largest industrial employer in Northeastern, PA, their capabilities include support for sustainment, overhaul and repair, fabrication and manufacturing, engineering design and development, systems integration, technology insertion, modification, and global field support.

Tobyhanna Army Depot also facilitates the United States Air Force Technology Repair Center for Tactical Missiles and Rigid Wall Shelters and Portable Buildings.

PAtobyhannaarmydepot4

The depot also is the largest employer in northeastern Pennsylvania, with more than 5,000 personnel working at the installation. The depot's regional economic impact approaches $2 billion annually. The depot also operates 30 Forward Repair Activities at major U.S. installations and overseas, including in Southwest Asia.

In late 2016, it was reported that the depot now uses an anechoic chamber to test radars by simulating signals and targets. The initial cost of the chamber was recouped in around eight months because the systems did not have to be shipped to the Yuma Proving Ground.

PAtobyhannaarmydepot6

Plaques and statues, trees and other objects paying tribute to key figures and special events in depot history dot the landscape. In addition, numerous military and civilian awards reflect the depot’s long-standing commitment to the environment and safety. Tobyhanna programs for antiterrorism, and injured and disabled employees have earned Army-level recognition. The depot has five Army Lean Six Sigma Excellence Awards, an Army Superior Unit Award, the Army Chief of Staff Maintenance Excellence Award for Depot Maintenance and seven SHINGO medallions.

The Course of a Lifetime
Read: 2 Chronicles 24:2, 13–16

Joash did what was right in the eyes of the Lord all the years of Jehoiada the priest. 2 Chronicles 24:2

“There are different questions a young artist can ask,” says singer-songwriter Linford Detweiler of eclectic folk duo Over the Rhine. “One is, ‘What must I do to be famous?’ ” Detweiler warns that such a goal “swings the door open to all manner of destructive forces from both within and without.” He and his wife have instead chosen a less flashy musical road in which they “continue to grow over the course of an entire lifetime.”

The name Jehoiada isn’t readily recognized, yet it’s synonymous with a lifetime of dedication to God. He served as priest during the reign of King Joash, who for the most part ruled well—thanks to Jehoiada.

When Joash was just seven years old, Jehoiada had been the catalyst in installing him as rightful king (2 Kings 11:1–16). But this was no power grab. At Joash’s coronation, Jehoiada “made a covenant between the Lord and the king and people that they would be the Lord’s people” (v. 17). He kept his word, implementing badly needed reforms. “As long as Jehoiada lived, burnt offerings were presented continually in the temple of the Lord” (2 Chronicles 24:14). For his dedication, Jehoiada “was buried with the kings in the City of David” (v. 16).

Eugene Peterson calls such a God-focused life “a long obedience in the same direction.” Ironically, it’s such obedience that stands out in a world bent on fame, power, and self-fulfillment.Tim Gustafson

How would you describe the direction of your life to this point? What changes might you want to ask God to help you make?

Howdy, lauren! *Hugz*

I hope you aren’t underwater like the folks in Dallas. What a mess! That’s taking “When it rains, it pours,” a little too far.

Yep, it rained. And rained. Second highest 24 hour rainfall ever recorded. 7 inches. Crazy! Dallas got 10-12 inches. YIKES!

But, it’s also 25 degrees cooler, so WOO HOO!

Hope you’re doing well!

Wow! Y’all have been hammered! You needed the rain and needed that BIG cool-down too. WOOHOO!!!! But you didn’t need the rain all at once! Ouch!

Things are good here. It’s been cooler the past week and we’ve had some rain. No sick kitties to fret over. Life’s pretty good. :-)

Hey there, radu!

It was such a lovely cool day here today. No rain, but just very pleasant.

Hope you had that kind of a day, too!

Howdy, luvie.

Glad to hear you have cool weather though a little more rain wouldn’t have hurt.

No rain for us today though it was mostly cloudy. Pretty muggy, though, and will be all week. It’ll be warmer than last week though still not in the 90s. We’ll barely miss out on those.
