CHIPS Act lures Taiwan’s GlobalWafers to Texas
Asia Times ^

Taiwan’s GlobalWafers is set to build a new semiconductor wafer factory in Texas, leveraging into the subsidies on offer from the new CHIPS Act signed into law by President Joe Biden on August 9.

GlobalWafers is expected to spend about US$2 billion on the facility initially and $5 billion eventually as wafer production, sales and profits rise. Demand should be supported by the construction of new factories by Intel, TSMC, Samsung and other semiconductor makers in the US.

According to a GlobalWafers statement on the investment, “At full build-out, the multi-staged, 3.2 million-square-foot silicon wafer factory will be the largest facility of its kind in the USA and among the largest in the world along with secured abundance of land to support any required further growth.”

It will also be the first such factory built in the US in two decades. The Taiwanese press reports that about 80% of the new factory’s initial capacity has already been booked in advance.

Headquartered in Taiwan, GlobalWafers ranks third among five companies that dominate production of silicon wafers for the semiconductor industry, with a market share of about 16% according to industry sources.

The other four are Shin-Etsu Chemical (30%) and SUMCO (24%) of Japan, Siltronic AG (13%) of Germany and SK Siltron (12%) of South Korea. The investment in new capacity follows the collapse of GlobalWafers’ attempt to buy Siltronic last February.

Joe is an idiot. He is refusing to ARM Taiwan. Joe is simply a Red China Cut out.Joe sold out freedom in Taiwan for a plate of Hunter Moo Goo Gai Pan.

NEVER FORGET THAT

A water barrier of 5+ miles makes things really hard—there is a reason Britain has only hosted non-intra Britain wars a handful of times.

Can China itself survive destroying crucial Taiwan industries?

As soon as Great Britan let US know they were leaving Hong Kong, is when we should have been relocating most of Tiawan and it's technology to a safer location.

This tech originated in California’s “Silicon Valley”.

Environmentalists, labor laws, taxes and regulations chased production out off our nation and sent it overseas.

Thanks, Democrats.

Exactly right.

Now we have the job of whacking our Universities to get rid of China, whacking Big Tech, and completely revolutionizing our corrupted political system.

We have the man who can do it. And his life is in danger because of it. May Divine Providence Guard him and his family from ALL harm.

People do not get it. China will take Taiwan with all of its industry intact. They will simply isolate Taiwan. Blockade the whole Island by sea , air and space, and sever all internet and Satellite signals to the Island.

Taiwan will be picked like an over ripe plum.

And there is NO ONE willing to do a thing about it.

Yeah, whatever happened to Texas Instruments? I used to work for them in Lubbock TX. I worked in the “clean room” inspecting disks that were then cut into chips. Are they still around?

If Taiwan has nukes, taking out one city with a threat to follow up by taking out Beijing and the Three Gorges Dam may force China to choose between pounding Taiwan to dust or backing down.

Looks lie this bill did more for American industry then anything the Repukes ha e done. Don’t know much about this bill, I’m sure it’s some corporate give away of sorts but since I couldn’t tell you what the Repukes are for this seems like a clear win. The Rats spare no expense in trying to get “their” President some wins. The Repukes didn’t lift a finger. The entire Repuke leadership needs to go, even if it means the Rats hold thr senate for awhile. A much clearer path to success if finding a way that a Rat Senate will work with President Trump because the Repukes are clueless.

I would imagine the communist would prefer to invade Taiwan during a Biden appeaser administration than to face off with the likes of a Trump administration.

So, yes, I agree. Taiwan is facing an invasion within months, not years. President Xi is expected to be granted supreme leader status at the next commie congress in Oct.2022.
