Monkeypox Heavily Impacts Black and Latino Gay Men

More than half of people with monkeypox in the United States are now Black and Latino men who have sex with men, according to the latest demographic data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The shift toward gay and bisexual men of color increasingly mirrors long-standing disparities in the U.S. HIV epidemic.

“We’re creating a caste system of who is going to get access to what is needed for monkeypox,” longtime AIDS activist Gregg Gonsalves, PhD, now at the Yale School of Public Health, told PBS. “What we’re seeing is that the health disparities we’ve seen in COVID, we’ve seen in HIV, are recapitulating themselves with this new virus.”

Monkey pox affects overwhelmingly a single group, male homosexuals, and is not readily transmissible except by intimate contact.

"Intimate contact" doesn't even explain it all. Don't men and women have intimate contact with each other on a frequent basis?

He sa I d his on-site visits and interviews to federal prisons showed 36% of black males engaged in anal sex and usually those introduced to the lifestyle remained bisexual once released. The implications for the black community is bisexuality passes gay sex diseases into the general population at a rate much higher than other racial groups.

Anal sex stretches the skin membrane and even if not blood passes between them their is increased damage when they repeat the act. Eventually the weakened anal membrane will allow bodily fluids to pass thru thus infection.
