U.S. Veterans Race to Train Ukrainians as Marines; ‘Time Is Not on Their Side’
WSJ ^ | 17-AUG-2022 | Yaroslav Trofimov

Clad in mismatched fatigues, Ukrainian Marine recruits sprawled on the grass, cocking their assault rifles and aiming at targets. Then, to the surprise of their American instructors, one by one they started squeezing the trigger.

“Cease fire!” yelled Steven Tomberlin, 62, a retired police officer from Colorado overseeing this part of the training. “Until I give the command. You. Do. Not. Do. Anything.” When the firing resumed, bullets hit the dirt berm, often far off the mark.

“Most of these people have just been mobilized. They were electricians or tractor drivers yesterday, and many have never held a weapon in their hands,” said Sr. Lt. Anton Solohub, a deputy commander of this Ukrainian Marine battalion, as he watched the first day of a crash course provided by a group of mostly American veterans.

“These instructors have promised that they will turn my men into some kind of special force in 10 days,” Lt. Solohub mused. “Let’s see.”

If we care SO much - why aren’t we sending in our military?

Perhaps they should be training Americans in America instead of foreigners in far away lands....in light of what is heading our way.

Lyndon B. Johnson quote modified: We are not about to send American boys 9 or 10 thousand miles away from home to do what Ukrainian boys ought to be doing.”

Any official training of Americans would be for building up forces to suppress the people, in your coming time of troubles. Its way better for them to train Ukrainians.

The same reason your Army stockpiles are better in Poland and Ukraine than the US. Because otherwise when the time comes all that stuff is going to be aimed at you.

Lambs being led to slaughter in a futile proxy war Ukraine can't win in a hopeless attempt to harm Russia.

You and yours need to follow Liz Cheney off a political cliff.

I agree.

But we’re informed that this is a European/NATO worldwide threat akin to defeating Hitler.

Ukraine doesn’t have the men to keep up.

So why are we continuing to throw BILLIONS at a proxy war?

Either it’s important to us or it’s not.

But we’re informed that this is a European/NATO worldwide threat akin to defeating Hitler.

False premise! Putin has launched an undeclared war, invaded a peaceful neighboring country, killed thousands of civilians, allowed Russian war crimes, shelled / fire-bombed urban centers, and seized territory. Oh, and he is also denying the legitimacy of the existence of an independent Ukrainian state and Ukrainian people.

So, he has that much in common with Hitler.

But he hasn't declared war on most of the civilized world, so there's that difference between him and Hitler.

However, even Hitler didn't threaten nukes if he didn't get his way!

Ukraine doesn’t have the men to keep up.

Ukraine has roughly one-third the population of Russia, but Ukraine has ordered a General Mobilization and so has more available manpower.

So why are we continuing to throw BILLIONS at a proxy war?

Because every Russian warplane, warship, tank, etc. which the Ukrainians capture, disable, or destroy is one less threatening America and her allies.

Or are you perhaps sad that Ukraine is degrading Russia's ability to wage war?!

Regards,

Fine - then let’s send in the military.
Or are you afraid that will REALLY hurt Putin?

Unfortunately the only way Ukraine will get back it’s territory is for direct and forceful Western military intervention.
