Drones armed with explosives attack US military base in Syria

Multiple drones strapped with explosive devices attacked an American-run compound in Syria on Monday.
The U.S. military says American and allied forces at the compound suffered no injuries or damage. No group has claimed responsibility yet for the attack which hit the al-Tanf base in south-central Syria.
U.S. forces are deployed to the area to assist Syrian opposition forces. The military says troops stationed at the base shot down one of the drones before it could enter the base. Another one flew inside a building and detonated but caused no injuries.

Whoever did it is certainly a proxy for Iran, likely Hamas, Hezbollah or the Islamic Jihad. The Jihad has been the most active recently.

Why? There are a plentiful supply available everywhere online for US$18K or less. There were no drones in the $85B abandoned in Afghan - and a lot of that money was on stacked on pallets.

Why are we **still** in Syria? To keep ISIS on the back foot, keep the Assad regime allied with Russia from getting access to the only major oil field in the country, allowing the Kurds to sell the oil and using the proceeds to fund their militias and our own operations.
It's about the only "self-funding" military operation we have.

And when was this ongoing use of military force authorized by Congress? When was war declared against Assad?
I don't recall such formal authorization ever being declared.
