Nivedita Bhasin became the world’s youngest commercial airline captain in 1989, but the Indian pilot still recalls her early years when other crew would urge her to rush into the cockpit so passengers wouldn’t get nervous at the sight of a woman flying their plane.
Three decades after Bhasin’s career began, female pilots are no longer a rarity in India, making the country a success story when it comes to diversity in the airline industry. India has the highest percentage of female pilots globally, the International Society of Women Airline Pilots estimates, with about 12.4% of all pilots women, compared with 5.5% in the US, the world’s largest aviation market, and 4.7% in the UK.

they want them?
Probably not for commercial aircraft.
Women pilots have consistently better safety records than men in flying transport planes. The reason is that if they are trained properly, they are more reliable in following checklists, rules, and safety procedures. It is the men who take shortcuts that get everybody killed.
Women do poorly in fighter craft. A different skill set is required and very few women have that skillset. Too many women get passed by "affirmative action" quotas.
Safety-critical occupations are an objective test which is pass-fail. The required skills are not evenly distributed by race, ethnic group, age, or gender. It is a lethal mistake to insist otherwise for reasons of political correctness.
"There are old pilots and bold pilots, but there are no old, bold pilots."
Airline pilot: high stress job that you can’t make mistakes doing. And when failures occur you have to fix things right then and there. Death is a real possible outcome not handling things properly.
As a group women do not like such jobs. More so now modern women.
Do they have a proportionally higher incidence of plane crashes ?
Because all the dudes died of Typhus after bathing in the holy Ganges river with rotting corpses floating by.
Except for Dinette Isuzu who survived to make crappy movies
“educating” Americans. He such a smarty guy.
Traditionally, the route to being an airline pilot led through building hours in the military. Traditionally military pilots were primarily male.
I do not recall hearing of lot of plane crashes in India. And India has heavy activity of flights. My flight from Mumbai to Vadodara was full, and smelled of curry.
“Don’t worry, scrote. There are plenty of ‘tards out there living really kick-ass lives. My first wife was ‘tarded. She’s a pilot now.”
Someone who failed basic math is asking this question. That is like saying why is the average US state three times the size of the average state in India?
Life doesn’t mean as much where you crap on the sidewalk, like San Francsisco.
Tom Cruise in Too Gun?
i thought they killed their baby girls, so i am surprised to read this.
Yes, Pilot’s job is high stress but obviously well paid and a good career for any woman smart enough to learn flying modern aircraft.
Of course, I have no idea what goes on at home.
USA is 3 times bigger land area than India, while population of India is around 1400 Million. One of the reasons I emigrated, I am not a fan of crowded cities.
“How does India have twice as many women airline pilots as the US?”
Life is cheaper there (ducks)
Yeah...more of a Margaret Trudeau.
While you are yet to make a movie, and spending lots of time posting on FR.
Also less violent crimes based on population.
Have you seen LPGA American golfers? They ware a lot of pink and fashionable clothes but the South Korean & Thai women win more tournaments, in spite of being of smaller stature.
